As you can see, @Jnewgames is muted for 7 days. As he is an engergetic forum writer, he created a lot of forum threads. There are ongoing discussion on those topics. If you mute someone, it is fine. But dont deactivate, the forum threads.

Mutes are temporary. They will come back.

Lord_Hammer

Then how will you know they are muted?

Oh, well, they can do alternative things such as (green, red icon in individual profile)

Chess.com is regarded as socail networking service ( wiki) and deactivating the thread leads to inconvenience to other members.

googleenpassentholyhell

wow........... these prejudged fascists........... going to mute another proud activist............. disgusting ............. this corrupt moderation is what kick-starts the ruination of chess.com

And to think this might be ur next opponent. Show ur faces at a club and receive a lesson in humility.

We do not currently have a tool that blocks someone from commenting/chatting but leaves existing posts visible.  That would be a useful tool to have, but currently our mute tool hides posts as well as blocking further commenting.

I doubt it would be particularly difficult to implement such a tool - separating the "mute" and the "hide content" aspects into separate tools - but it's probably lower priority than many other more-requested features.

Jnewgames is an ugly little troll,  and his behavior is sometimes too reminiscent of a sociopath.  For example his stalking of Redgirlz as can be seen right here in this thread.  Those it you who post in his threads and encourage his trolling need to think twice about the kind of ugliness you are supporting. Directed right at @drmrboss and the rest of you followers of the sociopath.

Is there a list of upcoming features and the like posted anywhere that we might see what's going on and what's coming next?

Turn on Beta: https://www.chess.com/settings/beta

That will give you early access to upcoming features - but at the cost of using features that aren't fully tested yet and might still have bugs.

It will also get you into the Beta club: https://www.chess.com/club/chess-com-beta

Also, following @CHESScom and @erik will give you notifications about posts by either of them - and some of those, particularly the monthly review posts from @CHESScom, can give some information on what's new and what's coming soon.

we really need to get more creative, it doesn’t look good when all the popular threads are by muted members

Lol, that is true.

As a simple logic,

The more you talk-----》》the more risk of conflict with others/ chess.com policy---》 the higher risk of mute/ban.
