Did the Chess Rating System Change Yesterday?

Usually when I play a game against another person at my level, I either lose or gain 8 points. But yesterday, and only yesterday, each game I played got me 4 points. I assumed that they must have changed the rating system, but today it's back to normal!
It's honestly really annoying because I was on a great winning streak on blitz yesterday, and I was only gaining half of the points I would have if I had the winning streak any other day.
Does anyone know what this was or what it means? Did this happen to anyone else?
