I like your idea, that would be a cool (no pun intended) one to have!
On chess.com any screen name can choose to display any flag. I've asked to try and find out if the passports chess.com lists that we earn through opponent game play are confirmed opponents from that country or not? No answer so far.
Another commenter when he found this out, thought it was so funny he put the North Korea flag next to his screen name. I'm wondering whether my 109 passports earned according to chess.com through opponent play are real or not?

Chess.com has no way to confirm player locations. They don't require any proof of identification to sign up.
How could they?
You can look at ip addresses but with vpn's it's impossible to be sure.
well Tourde I used the Ukraine flag for a while even though I am from the USA and nobody complained about it. As far as I know you can use any flag you want.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't know if they had some way to know/verify the player's country of origin (ip address, payment information, etc.).

It depends. First a vpn should have a kill switch, otherwise any loss of connection will reveal the real ip (and you can check this ip with an arbitrary machinated mathematical algorithm to see the probability it is residential or vpn). Also, it is not just about IP and fingerprint. Finally, IPs are encrypted for some of chess.com admins I guess

Yes that alludes to my point! Flags are more about pride than location so I want Antarctica! xx

On the OP's suggestion,....yes. Since Antartica is covered in snow 24/7 the flag should be like a white piece of paper.

I have been there many times for my old resumes lol I am a hobbyist astronomer and I love to travel around the world.
Now that I think of it, I wonder what would happen if someone used a vpn from Antarctica...
