Well, a good forum has three principle qualities:
Formatting + Grammar - While this may not be important to some, a good-looking and grammatically correct forum is much more appealing than one filled with slang, trolls, and random pictures. Focus - I posted a forum awhile ago about openings. It now has over 175 posts, most of which are concerning an argument over computer analysis. The forum was trashed by a lack of focus. Accuracy + Knowledge - A large percentage of chess.com members are amateurs who offer "knowledge" that turns out to be false. Only the masters truly contribute to the forums.Couldn't disagree(did I spell that right?) any more.
1.Some are more or less educated. Some come here to " get away from it" and spelling and grammar are hardly what they want to be thinking about. Some also find pictures and humor (eg fun) a good quality. Sorry, you take the game so seriously u can't even have fun with it.
2. Focus...Maybe, but computer analysis will always be of interest to some. If it is the arguments that makes you that angry then I hate to see how you get through a day of work or school or(shall I really continue?)
3. accuracy+knowledge-Efren reyes(probably one of the top 5 pool players of all time) will watch recreational players play to get ideas because they have no boundaries as to what or what is not possible in the game.
I give advice quite a bit and in some of it there are definitely errors. But, there are a lot of good ideas and accuracy as well and I am far from a master. If you confine yourself to masters you are missing out. While pfren is a better player than myself I feel I can teach more people about the game at times(eg I ask him why something is much better...Because it is is essentially the answer).
But, you have the right to your (incorrect :P) opinion. Thats what makes up a forum. A bunch of different(wrong) opinions which I of course correct.
If you want to filter out what you dont like or dont understand, private chat!
An elitist approach is not for the masses. the rules are simple.." Be relevant"..."Be nice".."Be helpful". Whatever dialect, whatever dialog and patronising remarks like "Masters truly contribute" would truly bring the forums to its knees as masters rarely contribute. I take it your a master then?
