Game Difficulty Change as Rank Increases

Hi KingHunt66
I have noticed I pay more attention to my game and I play less sloppily when I am matched against higher rating players.
Could you be experiencing the same?

I do not think that is it. To put it bluntly, I am just finding that I am going through the 900s must faster then I went through the 800s. If you look at my profile you will see my ranking graph for blitz. Maybe I am just at a faster part of the learning curve.
Conversely, the lower you go down the rating ladder, the more room there is for critical problems. A 400 player might struggle with knowing how the knight moves, for example, and never moves a knight or castles because their knights are in the way, or something really exaggerated like that. Odds are, when they finally weed out that problem and move on to the next level things will feel a lot easier and make more sense, because *THAT* is out of the way now
Thanks for the feedback that was insightful. I am curious to see if I keep climbing through the 1000s.

You should get better with practice; however, we all reach a point where our natural abilities start to get in our way.

The level of competition does change gradually but at levels that are manipulated by other variables than just the rating of the player and his or her opponents.
Ahaha ouch. Yea I decided to stop after that game. Sometimes when its late I just get stupid.
TLDR: Is there a "hump" in the rankings between 800s and 900s that makes playing in the 900s easier?
Hello all,
So I have been playing a decent amount of chess this year. I got into things in January and since have played 1000 live games. I do not know if that is a lot but its been fun. I started in the mid-low 700s playing Blitz (I basically only play 3|2) and worked my way up over four months to the mid-high 800s. There I plateaued from about April until the last few days. Keep in mind I did not play as much chess during the April-Present period as I did from January to April.
Recently I have been playing a fair amount, about 10-50 games a day (all 3|2) including entering in some tournaments. I usually do not play the whole time because they take hours but I will play quite a few games. I usually playing players who are around 1100-1300 in these tournaments. The best I have played (and lost to) was a 1900. Anyways I found that I am punching a bit above my weight class in these tournaments and I crested the 900s. Since then I have been playing more people in the high 900s and low 1000s and I have been going on a bit of a run. Not a crazy run but I feel like I am winning more and I have been climbing a bit through the 900s.
Now here comes the strange part, I feel like the games are getting easier. I had a LONG slog through the 800s, sometimes I would fall 75 points on a bad day. I have only been in the 900s for a week or so but its been much more consistent climbing.
So now for the question: is there any evidence to suggest that the ranking system is off because 800s players seem better then 900s/1000s players. Am I playing more new players in the 900s falling into place at lower ranks? Is there some kind of rank "hump" that you cross going from the 800s to the 900s?
It could be nothing as the sample size is small but I am curious what peoples thoughts are.
