By the way best of luck in your quest to become a GM Atomic_Rift. It's good that you have supportive friends, having unsupportive (so called) friends can lead to many tribulations or far worse. I hope you always have good friends.
Hello!

There's a saying: "Irony is the lowest form of wit."
It is, nonetheless, firmly in the witty category, which is more than can be said for other forms of communication.

Squirrels, people! Let's stay focussed here!
You know the consquences of thread hijacking!
Apparently these consequences are non-existent for Mr. Gilded-Candlelight or Timbeau, who have thoroughly interrupted the thread for their own personal feud. But thank you for reminding me.
Incidentally, what is the topic of this thread, now that the OP has successfully concluded his introduction of himself?

Well I never said I thought the comments were ironical. It was a reference to someone else's perspective.

I was just speaking generally in favor of humor, sorry if it was a bit tangential.

Is it just Americans? That is reassuring.
I've said before that chess.com is, unwittingly, the world's fourth-largest supplier of irony.

There's a saying: "Irony is the lowest form of wit."
I think you might find that's actually "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit". An understandable error: Americans often seem to suffer an irony-deficiency.
(Should I have put "lol" after, before, or in the middle of that comment ? Or not at all ?!)

That depends on when you usually start laughing at your own jokes; if that's something you do.

I agree with you ivandh : I read your posts as ironical comments on the said feud - a feud kicked off by Candlelight's bizarre assumptions and hysterical 'blocking' of my goodself! Perhaps I should have gone with Proverbs26:4 and ignored Candlelight; instead of 26:5: answering the fool according to his folly. More fool me!
I've already talked about using this thread as a metaphor for The Game itself. It would have made a change from the predictable boosterism of the Opening posts.
We may only be in a Middle game devoid of strategy, but I'll 'tip my King' now and resign. That clown from Tajikistan I can do without.
And to Atomic_Rift : why don't you read the Topic "Can anyone become a GrandMaster" and then go outside and kick a football around for a while!
I think I'll go fly round the block and see what the hens are up to ...
I hate that show Family Guy, and I don't entirely agree with the saying. I would agree that it can be true for some individuals who could probably find a new low if they really applied themselves.
