It's impossible to tell most of the time.
*If they're a confirmed titled player w/ their real name there, you can just check their FIDE/USCF profile. Chess.com doesn't allow imposters, because they banned one of my accounts pretending to be Trump.Â
*Otherwise, you can't really tell. In fact, I altered my old USCF rating by a small amount (+-5 points) so that people can't immediately know who I am by searching me up.Â
When I look at other players' profiles some of them display their OTB rating (FIDE or national federations) and I always wonder whether that's actually their rating or if they're LYING 👀
Sooooo... how can you tell if someone's lying about their OTB rating?
