How can you tell if someone is lying about their OTB rating?

When I look at other players' profiles some of them display their OTB rating (FIDE or national federations) and I always wonder whether that's actually their rating or if they're LYING 👀

Sooooo... how can you tell if someone's lying about their OTB rating?

Cherub_Enjel

It's impossible to tell most of the time.

*If they're a confirmed titled player w/ their real name there, you can just check their FIDE/USCF profile. Chess.com doesn't allow imposters, because they banned one of my accounts pretending to be Trump.

*Otherwise, you can't really tell. In fact, I altered my old USCF rating by a small amount (+-5 points) so that people can't immediately know who I am by searching me up.

If they say it's a number over 5000.

Ik but that's a joke so it doesn't count

That's not very nice!

As long as you know their real name and they belong to uscf you can look up their rating whether they are titled or not. I don't know about any other organization. Why not just play them and you can see for yourself. Even if someone gives there correct rating it may have been years since they have played in a tournament.

Indeed. Was his answer right? Of course it was. Yet you complain about him...

I personally never worry about looking at OTB ratings. A lot of these can be outdated or innacurate.

yureesystem

I think anyone who post untrue otb rating or titles should be ban.

Sometimes people are too lazy to update their ratings...

RookSacrifice_OLD

Don't start that...

How many accounts did you have?

Currently, I have one active account.

I believe I may have had approximately 15 or so, combined in the past. They were closed for various reasons.Â
