(Yes, I know that there's selection bias towards active forum participants and those willing to join such a group and that it's also not a statistically significant sample size, but it's still interesting to note)
I think the Question answer its self, for out in ze real world, it's pretty hard to find people whom are interested in chess, where I'd be lucky to have a game every month or so, & with people of the same degree, online chess for sure helps your quality of play, yo!

Yeah, I'm surprised at how many seniors are still around. There's actually quite a lot of them.

i joined in 2007, dont remember when, was on another account
i still remember when thegab03 joined, and when redsoxpawn joined, and before the days of patzer24. so, that makes me a solid senior. i've more or less given up on the forums, though

I hope these new groups will be at least as exclusive as the the-dark-knights - which limits membership to ...
