Playing only a small number of games, can leave you very bored with the game. If you only have say ten games, at three days per move, you may only be able to make one or two moves a day, depending on your opponents. I enjoy playing lots of games. I have played up to 70 games at a time, but I do log on to play two or three times a day. and I find that there are still many times when I play maybe 15 or 20 moves and then still have no one to play. So I have to log off and wait until someone makes a move. I am playing 53 games at the moment.
How many online chess games do you play simultaneously?
Wow, nice. That's what I thought too, but I also thought that I might end up biting off more than I could chew.
I think I should do it little by little...
Time to add more games :) Thanks!
Yeah, I've experienced that as well... Like I play sometimes then go out, and when I come back to check on the moves made, I catch myself thinking "hmmm... what was I trying to do here again?"
But I guess the more you play, the more that shouldn't become a problem since your mind should get used to playing the board and strategizing as it is regardless of what you were trying to do previously.

I play about 10+ boards at a time. Even though it is tempting to set up more boards because I do not like the waiting but it makes the risk of lossing greater. I tend to forget the boards and what I want to do. I still believe in focusing more on one or few boards. This way you can strategize the game better.

I am a newbie and have / are playing 5/6 games until I get used to the routine , but intend to increase in near future

I am in the lucky situation that i can check regular on the site while i'm working!
I got beteen 20 and 40 active games, but mostly when i am checking there are 3 to 8 opponents online, so it's good to do for me to do.
But i do not play many games under "3 day per move" because of tactical reasons. When i play a high rated person i do need more time to think it over, and on the other hand when i play faster i make many dumb moves.
I think the number of games depend on your speed of playing and time you got to be online. The changes are higher on a (timeout) loose when you got to much matches going on in to little time.
Just try slowly to build the number of games, and stop starting new games serveral days or weeks if you know that holidays are coming, and all will be fine!

Since we are not strong enough as a chess player, we need more and more games, not only in chess.com but other sites too...that offer free-chess online...Its good you meet many persons and abilities...whether you lose, its fine, that's part of learning.

Last year, for some weels, I was playing 300+ games simultaneously (in 5 or 6 different chess sites).
Now I prefer to play live chess and I have 20-50 games only running.

@ lastdodobird
i u forget what u want to do on board after the break,
just look at the moves u made..whenever i log in , i take a look at my game before my move.i s useful.
by the way i have 20 games in progress and sometimes it s tiring cos almost all of them are tourney games

I don't like going beyond 30 ... with 30 I always have games waiting (despite myself being on for hours each day) ... so there's no need for more :).
Newbie here to the site.
It just seems tempting to setup/join MANY games (say 10 or 20) at the same time since you can take as long as you can to think of your next move... I just don't know what the drawbacks are and if it's frowned upon or anything since I'm just new to the site.
So how many online games at maximum do you guys usually have going at the same time?
