How to avoid the game-draggers?

For Gods sake, I got an email telling me that this thread had been opened by a friend I follow, so I decided to see what it was. I have to say IMDeviate, that was a really mean response and it just pissed me off to hell. He just asked a question and you mouthed off like a professional sausage. Just because you're online and hiding behind your ash face profile pic doesn't mean it's ok for you to be a breast, calm down, or just don't respond.

I am with IMDeviate. 3 days is 3 days, you have no right to expect something else besides what you signed up for.
I was in a tourny with a 3 day time control, and one of my opponents requested me to "move a little faster". While I responded civilly, I thought it a little rude. Not a big deal, but if you and your opponent sign up for 3 days, that is what you get and you have no right to pester the opponent about his move speed.
The fault is entirely your own. Next time, choose a faster speed, there are plenty of games.
Next time you are at an OTB tourny, try pestering your opponent about moving faster, and see what happens.

Timbles, I too am an American, but I will not take a shot at you. I can see your point, and I can see theirs as well. Technically, by the letter of the law, you are stuck with it, as that is what you signed up for. But the spirit of the law, especially during this time of year with good will to all, might factor in as well. It does seem that dealing in good faith would mean not running the clock down to almost zero with every move, and yet I am one who at times does this myself, and when I do, it is (with very few exceptions) not to be a jerk. Mostly it is just that I cannot find the time to set aside to look for a good move, whereas in my other games I can either find a good move right away or I am playing just for fun and don't mind losing anyway. I can imagine my opponents not being too happy to see me playing my other games but not theirs, but, as I said, it is rarely done with malice, and the few times that it is done for malice, I think it is deserved, and in those cases I can fall back on what the other Americans said about that being my option, in accordance with the time limit of three days.
When you challenge another player, you can set the time limit, from a range of options, but three days per move is the default. When you receive a challenge, it will tell you the time limits, but you may have to look for them if you are not already familiar with the page and how it is set up.
Finally, American or not, there is a group that has taken over the forums and appointed themselves judge, jury, and executioner of anyone who dares to step onto their turf. I fear that now I will be next on their list, and it is because of them that I now almost never post anything in the forums, but if you look at some of the abuse in other forums, you will find that you got off easy. Now if only I too will be so lucky. Happy holidays mate.

Hi Timbles
I'm not an American ;) I have seen both sides of the coin players using vacation time so much the game lasts for it seems months and someone this weekend who set up a 14 day seek with something like "FAST PLAY ALL DAY" and then sent rude mails when I moved once a day.
However I think if your opponent is moving once every three days that's fine and if they are playing 500 games then that's their right.
Best wishes to you

Of course it is everybody's right to play as many games as they like, but such excess might be viewed by some as selfish to the point of rudeness.
You can stick as much food in your mouth as you like too - but too much and you won't be able to chew.
Sorry, but as long as he is sticking to the mutually agreed on 3 day rule, I simply can't find anything selfish or rude about him playing all those games. Maybe you really would like to find another time format if you aren't willing and ready to wait that long.

Thanks Vance, you write words of wisdom and I too hope they won't turn on you too.

If he is making the moves within 3 days, then he is able to chew.
You will know he is no longer able to when you win the game on time.
I guess I shouldnt be that surprised: the Xbox generation discovers chess, and suddenly everyone needs to move at teh speed of GTA V or be called a pwnd noob!!1!1!!!

Way to jump to conclusions, "InvisibleDuck" - I just owned to being 63 years old. You would have seen that if you opened your eyes as readily as you open your mouth. Xbox generation? What a tit.
if its conclusion jumping you want, how about this:
" I don't have the size of ego that would drag out 530 games at one time."
Ego? You have any evidence for that assertion?

Going back to the part of over 500 games...I looked at his games to make sure and I have had the pleasure of dealing with the same person. Not only does he have 550 games going, he sets up tournaments and then joins them with as many as 9 alaises at one time! Playing all the games! I have complained to chess.com and gotten the alaises accounts closed but he sets up new ones and starts new tournaments. In this case, I do understand the complaint.

Someone told me once that Correspondent Chess players prefer sex with their chess engines. I didn't believe them. But, Oh Such Bickering followed.
Nothing wrong with Correspondence players, of course, I have a couple delightful books by former World Champion, Genedi Nesis, on "Tactical Chess Exchanges," and "Exchanging to Win in the Endgame." Both great books.
These threads are quite a battleground, are they not?
As good as any "South Park" episode on cable TV, with a pinch of "Beavis and Butthead," added for good measure.
Please don't take this "shite" so seriously. They want to get a rise out of you. It goes with the territory, unfortunately.
All in good fun. We hope.

Noted.
I am still waiting for a CC opponent to try the "disconnect" tactic!

Now that's something else completely. Is there no rule to the effect that you will be banned permanently if caught using more than one account?
