I am 12y/o, and just started to take chess seriously, am i too late

I learnt chess when i was 6y\o, then  stopped till i was 11y/0o then after a few months i started again. I want to acheive NM atleast before i go to uni as it is for my CV. Thank u

You are certainly not too late. You can probably do almost anything you put your mind to.

Something for your CV is not the best reason for trying to become an NM. Being good at chess is not very useful for employment unless you want to become a coach or a streamer.

A better reason for wanting to become an NM is a strong love for chess. That love will greatly help you on the difficult climb. Without it the task is very much harder.

A realistic first goal for you is to aim for a 1000 rating within the next 3 months. Most players on this site never reach 1000 rating, so even a 1000 rating is something that you can take pride in.

I think it's unlikely. At this point you aren't much better than somebody who just learned how the pieces move within the last week.

What you need to do is to go over to lichess.org and make an account there. The ONLY reason for doing that is to do the puzzles. You need to learn the basics, like how to take pieces, or how to do a mate in one. On this site, you would have to be a premium member to get unlimited access to the puzzles here.

Having said that, I think that if you can afford it, a diamond membership would serve you well. The lessons here for absolute beginners are very good, and it would be well worth it to take those lessons and to do the puzzles here on this site.

I can relate as I started playing chess in 2022, and have been playing for over a year (I was 11). I would get a ChessKid gold memebrship account (chess.com's kid version), since the lessons are very simple to understand and easy to finish (find coaches that offer ChessKid, best option). I've been doing them since I started, and I have a decent rating (1894 blitz on Lichess, 1600 on ChessKid, 1400 on chess.com, 1170 OTB.) For me, I just play and play, as you face slightly tougher opponents. NM is possible, but that willl need to be done at over-the board tournaments. There's a whole bunch of stuff that I don't know about in terms of reaching NM, but it is doable, as I went from 600 to 1600 on ChessKid in one year.

If you're just looking for CV skills, its probably much more useful to learn an instrument than a game.

No. 6 years can be enough to help you refine your skills in chess if you work hard enough at it. Just don't burnout.

I took a break for a year and a half, look at me now! Just play chess, and you get better. At least for me.

One is never ready. Everyone has this question but remember, it's a marathon which you are participating in. NM is easy (not so much) to get. Work hard daily for atleast 3 hours and get a good coach

You are so late. I lost to a six year old last year. Of course, you could probably beat me at twelve. But it's not the same as beating me at six.

Depends what your goals are. If you are trying to become a top 10 player, then maybe you're too late. However, you could still become a very strong master player, maybe even grandmaster if you put in enough time. I started when I was 18 and by the time I was 21 I had gone from being 800 rated to 2000.
