I Am Considering Subscribing But...

I'm torn between subscribing here and subscribing at the Internet Chess Club. Here is a link outlining the benefits of their membership. http://www.chessclub.com/tryicc/index.html Now of course I realize that I'm going to get biased results by asking people for opinions here, but if you're a member, why did you choose Chess.com, and if you're not, what is your opinion of the two. (Keep in mind that I'm a student and would be paying the same $30 for a yearly membership as gold members would).

i hope you make the right decision ;)

all kidding aside, i have a lot of respect for ICC. excellent site for live play. but for learning, community, and sheer ability to enjoy hours and hours (and too many hours??) of chess... maybe Chess.com has an edge.

To be honest, you just get WAY more bang for your buck here.  There are tons of things you can do to help your game.  It just seems like you can do everything on that ICC list here and more.

For my money, I'd choose Chess.com.

and remeber, over that year, chess.com is only going to get better...

look at chess.com a year ago:

No Live Chess, No database, No Tactics Trainer.

Now think of how much there will be in a year.

Yeap, the others are right. Chess.com is getting bigger and bigger very fast. There's now way the Internet Chess Club can beat this.

i am new to chess.com, i had been playing at internetchess.com for 2 years....

i only came across this site as there were login issues at internetchess for a few days so i had to look elsewhere....and what a blessing in disguise it was.

this place is awesome, its got it all...from the players, to the tactics to news, and such a great community.

10/10

As soon as Live Chess is sorted out I'm paying to join here. This is an excellent site with lots of interest other than simply playing games. The videos, forums and training available here is excellent. I have a premium membership now because one of the people I referred here has joined so you get premium membership free for a limited period. I use the Tactics Trainer now more than I play.

In my opinion there is no comparison between the two sites. This site offers much more for way less cost. Also,I found the ICC site somwhat confusing and difficult to navigate. Chose to subscribe to chess.com instead, and I'm very glad I did. The more subscribers chess.com has the better the site will become.

I just looked at the lay out of chessclub.com and i wouldn't be able to stand it. chess.com really looks more proffesionaly done and alot more pleasant to look at.

Aside from that, the reasons everyone else gave should convince u to make the right choice XD I no i did

My only suggestion is: try not to do what I did, which is jumping from site to site... Now that I'm in love with chess.com, I wouldn't trade it for anything else! :-)

I've been a paid up member of RedHotPawn in the past and am still a Premium member of GameKnot, but I'll most likely be switching the chess.com - it just has so many features compared to the other sites.

And it's fun :)

Yeah i have played on a couple of sites and to be honest this site just gives u so much more for what u pay and even what u dont then the ones i have tried. So for me personally im sticking with chess.com good place to invest ur money with all these cool features we get like (chess mentor, tactics trainer, PC analysis for our games, masters games we can look at, openings we can research on, live chess, news and the list goes on .) It can only get better over time. I have not checked out the other site u mentioned i will do that just because im curious type lol....Cool

The only other site I used to play Chess was on games dot yahoo dot com..(and that was long ago) so I cant make a good comparison. But I like it here too much to even think of searching for other chess sites. Which means I'm extremely satisfied with the services here. And trust me, you really do get cool goodies for the membership.

Above all, the friendly atmosphere here at Chess dot com is what I like the most. The staff do a splendid job taking care of the site. And I'm sure that the site will just keep on getting bigger and better :)

thegab03

I play on three different sites notably SchemingMinds, where I tend to play a hell of a lot better for there is less activity and distractions, it's great for different chess vairiants, like Chess 960, Atomic chess, Suciside chess ...etc!

But here, I find that the human contact and the easyness of finding ones way around fantastic, the gadgets plus the Staff make this in whole, "no where like home" , basically the atmosphere  can not be compaired eslewhere!

They both have their benefits.

Chess.com is chess meets myspace, which is fun.

The ICC is good for live lessons.

It just depends on what you are looking for.

A combination of the two would be the best. The ICC does not have the feeling of community chess.com has. From my personal experiences, membership with the ICC can improve your chess in a focused way (depending on what services you take advantage of). I haven't been on chess.com long enough to determine if it will or has improved my chess (which is the point for my chess endeavors).

Hope this is helpful.
