I deciphered chess.com's statement concerning the server issues

"We are continuing to experience record levels of traffic (exiciting for our pockets $$$tongue) which are creating sclaing issues for our databases and instability in multiple parts of the site. Of course we expected this due to the acquisition of the PlayMagnus croup and our servers are anyway known to be bad. But to be honest we couldn't care less.

We sincerily apologize for the issues because it doesn't cost us a cent ($$$tongue), and our engineering teams is working hard to adress! Some time it might work again until the next problems start. But hey servers and infrastsructure cost money ($$$tongue).

In the meantime we show you a picture of a monkey at his home PC and the number 502. Because animals always work and we like to look like a small garage made company and not like the big company we really are.

Disclaimer: I don't have any affiliations with chess.com and this text was written by me in a humoristic way. If you feel bad about it i can apologize ($$$tongue)

That's a completely false representation (even if joking)

First, the acquisition of PlayMagnus, may have driven additional traffic to the site, but Chess24 is still a separate site at this point.

Also, staff are actively working on optimizations and capacity increases to alleviate issues. It's not a quick change, but my understanding that is their priority.

@martin_stahl

Ok i changed it. Want an apology?

Of course they are working on it in the end it's the only product they sell.

Something else completely wrong about my statement beyond the really obvious?

i played many online based games and never experienced servers that bad like chess.com has. in the end chess.com gets more money because of the traffic and we have to pay the price. so far from the truth?

Staff don't like it when there are errors either. Over the years the site has been up the majority of the time and when there are issues, staff work on fixing them.

Issues, like the more recent traffic increases, are double-edged. Sure, some will become premium but the issues are also going to cause some to leave, some not become premium, or some to cancel premium.

If you go back and read anything that has been posted by @erik, you'll see that he wants to grow chess and it isn't just about the money.

You say it's their priority, but are we supposed to take it on your authority? Who are you? Just an unpaid mod who inhabits the forums.

If chess.com wants to say it's their priority, then more power to them... and it would certainly make sense if that were true... but who are you to make these announcements for them?

Just passing along what I'm aware of. You don't have to believe me wink

@martin_stahl

look i dont dislike the business concept of chess.com. let people pay who want and still offer free play for everyone. i like your stance on the war in ukraine.

Still. I'd like chess.com to offer anyone who's paying something e.g. a free week. A cheap apology won't do

Using twitter and mods to communicate important info comes across as unprofessional... well, to anyone who isn't a zoomer I suppose. Maybe someone should pass that along.

Right now, they're likely more concerned with resolving the issues and all the changes neede to accomplish that.

Once things are changed and more stable, I assume something about the situation and resolution will likely be posted and might include something. Just speculation but fits with previous occasions.

The free market is self correcting. It's just economics. Some upset consumers here.
