Is Chess.com TV worth watching?

I just finished watching some LIVE coverage on Chess.com TV of the ongoing U.S. Women's Championship & U.S. Junior Closed Championship by David Pruess.

I vote that it IS worth watching. It's entertaining, insightful and interactive. David's image is being streamed during it all, and he interacts frequently with those opting to comment via the chat feature.

What do you think about it?

I like it. Its also really neat how the instructors on the other end can see your comments.

Unlike the other features of this site, I used to dislike chess.com TV for 3 reasons:

1- Their bad quality and bandwidth, which still has problems, but it's MUCH better than before, was surprised when I saw it last night, hope it'll be even better soon.

2- There are lots of spammers, abusive, trash talking members who would flood the chatting room with things that aren't related to chess, really unprofessional.
Yeah you'll tell me to ignore them, but I'd tell you that these guys actually take 90% of the space in that room, which is awful, and needs you to "search" for something related to the game.

It isn't like people are fighting and discussing moves.
Much like the main chat of Live Chess, and I'v been there for a long time.
However Live chess does require such a social side, but live games needs us to be really serious. It's not like everyday that chess.com broadcasts such a thing, the master who's hosting the game is also being paid to do such, not to mention the very expensive bandwidth they pay for, so we need to be more serious about such things, not joining and telling stories about Chuck Norris for example.
A joke is nice sometimes yes, like the siren that we heard last night when David was doing the commentary and then the signal wen't off air, that was funny, but that's it, not over doing it.

3- Without mentioning names, some masters are kinda arrogant out there when they do a commentary on a game, and some have lame jokes and talk about Saloons in case you need a hair cut, some are too lazy to read the questions. I like David though, and I'd like to see him in each video out there, he's serious and polite, and that's what need.

Perhaps we'd see NM ChessNetwork one day hosting a game as well, like he does on you tube, it'd be very nice if that thing happened.

Jerry  from CHESSNETWORK was very good reporting the World championship. Very articulate. David has a little different style but is also good in his own right. He thinks as he works. These are groundbreaking events! Chess.com is working to creatively present the viewer with new ways of receiving information.  None of this was possible only as few years ago. I grew up with a radio - that's it!

The smack talk, is, of course inappropriate. But again, it is just the way people react. Really good players want us to know it. Fine! It is irrelevant to the presentation.

So be glad we have this stuff. We glad we have creative people.

In perspective, then, it is all way good.

Thank you,

The chat is so distracting and inane, I can't bring myself to watch Chess.comTV. I don't understand why anyone watching would need to say anything more than once an hour.

Ani, yes over time, we'll try to add some 'professional gloss' to it. but first it's important to hammer out some good concepts, and get good content, teach some more people how to broadcast, also to wait for the streaming video service to become more consistent (a product can only be so professional when relying on an uncertain vehicle for presenting it; don't worry this is super new technology which basically did not exist 1-2 years ago, so I imagine they will continue to improve rapidly), and also get it to work out business-wise.

as you see, someone thinks it's a slap in the face that we want people to have paying memberships for *some* of the shows... and it's an expensive product to provide, as it is now, nevermind improvements. there have to be enough people willing to pay for a product before one invests a bunch of resources on shiny graphics and sound effects.

prawn, you can avoid the chat: don't look at it; or full screen the video; or drag your browser to the right side of your screen, and push the chat off the edge, while keeping the video feed.

cheers!

in the schedule, under each show/time it indicates if the show is for all users or for platinum and diamond

for example if you look right now, you'll see wed show is plat+diam and fri show is for all.

To repeat some of what has been said before, thank you David for all of your hard work putting this site together. The hard work shows! The better 'professionalism' for 'tv' will come with time and experience. Most of us probably understand that this whole site is a work-in-progress; but for what I have seen, there has already been a lot of good information offered/transmitted/transferred from the many many venues of chess.com. IMHO, it is well worth the price of admission.

The instructional videos remain, to me, the most valuable section. But I sure am enjoying the other sections, including tv, as well.

Thanks again, David.
