Strictly speaking, the recent murder took place outside Facebook.
You're quite right.
Shock at Sydney teenager's 'Facebook murder'
artfizz, the second thread on your list, well first of all if she believe she is being stalked should seriously report this to the staff/police and delete her account and come back later with a new id but no name or photos for her own safetly.
After reading the articles there is a common theme that should never be dismissed... if it is on the internet it must be true?... question everything, deny all things and blame someone else...

Hey isn't that the motto for all modern western governments?

Still tragic but this sort of garbage is common in the USA.
I had a spat with Facebook a while back because they were allowing a convicted murder to contact my minor children. I asked Facebook for admin rights to my kids' profiles. Facebook's response was that these kids (12,13 and 15) have privacy rights that trump parental rights.
The situation was a little more complicated because I was no longer with the kids Mom and did not have physical access to the router or computers the kids were using to set up some blocking/firewall rules (not that it'd matter because they were tech saavy and would use a proxy, go to a friends house or the library, use a smart phone or whatever) , but the point I'm trying to make is that very early on you have to teach your kids to be excrutiatingly careful on the internet. By the time they are in their teens, they should know better than to fall for this sort of stuff. If they don't, you've failed as a parent.
This is incredible and I dont agree with this at all. The responsibility of the safety of children still living at home are primarily on the parents, and this being the case the childs " right to privacy " do NOT trump the rights of the parents to know whats going on in their child's life. This is just more socialist meddling and as usual, for the worse......

Socialist meddling done buy a business in a capitalist country? Sounds more like a coporate decision. They have the right to allow as much or as little parental access as they choose. Maybe the custodial paerent has to request access.

Is it just me - or is there increasing paranoia on chess.com?
