"Correspondence" chess refers to a type of chess where the players take turns making moves, often with time limits of several days or more. So the "turn-based" chess here on chess.com can be considered correspondence chess. Of course, this is not true of all online chess--on this very site you can play live blitz chess, featuring very short time limits.
