oh wow, apparently there are such things as "star trek tabletop war games" and a "star trek VCR game"  Surprised

Pseudoprogrammer

A) Nelix is a telaxian.

B) need a Tal category, put the borg in that.  They sacrifice millions of drones to win. Replace the database category with Data, the android from ST: TNG

C)Add Q to the cheaters category.

D) Non database users could be the race from season two of Voyager, the Drayan, who are warp capable but are practically Amish with it.  They all run around in veils and never show their skin and whatnot, they are very antisocial and conservative.

Sharukin

I play 1. Nf3 as white and then may go Reti or KIA according to how I am feeling, what black plays, how many beers I have had etc. I play Modern Defence (1. ... g6) as black no matter what white plays. So a Romulan-Cardassian hybrid I guess.

Rael

Great thread! Count me in.

My first motion is to change the category of chatters to "Betazoid - empathic/telepathic, concerned with the feelings thoughts of others" and remove the attribute "annoying".

sstteevveenn

"sacrifice wave after wave of my own men" Laughing

Google says Morn is the dude from Quark's bar.  Sounds vaguely familiar.  Apparently he was a Lurian.

Rael

Morn never spoke on-screen, so we could say he'd disabled chat.

/Kirk = Fischer
Picard = Kasparov
Sisko = Ashley
Janeway = Polgar?

There are some races that I think should be included but cant think of the best category.

the bynars, obviously some kind of computer users is the obvious one, but probably not databases.

erm, those blue guys - benzites? perhaps they will fit in somewhere

antedans - they're fish!

Pakleds - perhaps those people who have a little bit of knowledge gathered from different people, and use it without really understanding it, but are convinced they are really powerful players.

zakdorn - the really really good players who would be very frustrated if they drew with someone unrated or "not as good as them."

Rael

Kolrami... getting ready to take on Little Chess Partner.

Zakdorns - prefer to test their skills against Fritz, Rybka (Data).

Kevindubrow

The official Star Trek video game says that "Romulans, in their long history of war, always wait for their enemies to attack first to test their resolve," will that help?

sstteevveenn

Player 1 (Pakled category):  "We have the sicilian kalashnikov.  We are smart!  We are strong!"

Player 1 "helper" (human):  "Oh no!  They've used the Alapin!  Their Alapin has disarmed us!"

Player 1:  "They are smart!  We are not strong!"  Frown

sstteevveenn

Is Zakdorns really the plural of Zakdorn?  Wink

sstteevveenn

I was going to say tribbles, but couldnt think of a group.  Now I think of it though, perhaps Awardchess is a tribble!  Laughing

The Star Trek universe contains different races with clear, stereotyped characteristics. Within the chess.com universe, by contrast, the characteristics of the various groups are poorly written. PLEASE CONTINUE your heroic efforts toward extending these associations, leading to greater understanding, peace and ASSIMILATION OF ALIENS, etc

Is any chess.com group not being TRIBBLEd?

Arakasi

Nothing's been said about the manner in which people participate (or don't participate) in Vote chess, but that may overly complicate the issue :)

sstteevveenn

hmm, the oblivious to attacking plans thing was almost uniquely borg.  The aldeans were just technology freaks, and as most people are aware, but apparently they were not, this inevitably leads to trouble breeding.  Laughing

WyoKid

Well I would argue that a number of the Ferengi are also quite the chatters.  Quark and Grand Nagus Zek are prime examples.  Also the Cardassians are well known for their duplicitous nature and dissembling so I would definitely include them in the cheater category.  The Romulans are also known for doing what ever it takes to win.  The Klingons sense of honor certainly has them playing by the rules.  Also, while we have never heard Morn say much, according to Quark he never shuts up.

artfizz

I've gone back in time (using the 'slingshot effect') and updated the Table in post #34 with your suggestions - BEFORE you made them! Great ideas - keep 'em coming!

There are presumably subspecies of each of these groups - which warrant further elaboration. Chatters, for instance, come in at least 3 varieties: small talk-ers, chess fanatics, and (Yahoo) trash talkers.

Sharukin

Now I'm rude, ugly, sullen and dour? It's enough to turn a chap Klingon!

Hab SoSlI' Quch! "Your mother has a smooth forehead!" (Note: this is a powerful insult; don't say it to friends.) http://www.kli.org/tlh/phrases.html

Are there different types of Non-chatters: shy, sensitive, caring ones? Would anyone care to comment on that?

Sharukin

How would we know? If they are non-chatters they are unlikely to be revealing anything of themselves in chat or here!
