That's certainly one point of view.

But what about the 60's, flower-power, the Visigoths, under-age drinking, long hair, short hair, pot, punk rock, corporal punishment, the Philistines, glam rock, national service, deregulation, weekend opening, midi skirts, online banking, pop music, picket fencing, flares and chewing gum? Don't they deserve some of the credit?

I find these catagories too restrictive.  I don't want talkative and I don't want perfectly quiet.  I don't want someone who pores over the database and analyzes every position...I want OTB, except I want the flexibility to look up one or two popular move ideas to understand an opening better.  And I hate people who never resign...so that one is easy.  R

Let's see if you can devise better categories then!

"There are basically only 10 types of people in this world: those who understand binary, and those who don't."

 I second this.

Does Big Brother have to come to chess.com, too? Don't members already have enough info about each other on the profiles and stats?

Perhaps we should also know if our opponents are left or right handed, liberals or conservatives, straight or gay?

This is assinine

Thanks for expressing your view. I'll just add that animal to the list.

While we wait for the super-duper feature

Rollover actions on a player name (rating, current games, etc)
to be implemented that will give instant information about another person (and potential opponent!), ...

The mouseover feature has, of course, been implemented - some time back.

I'm an INTP... no. Wait. Wrong site.

I'm not entirely sure what you meant by that, but I hope it wasn't a personal attack.

Are we talking about the same topic? The one with a list of tags / animal names (in post #8) to denote personal characteristics.

LOL!!!  Laughing

Perhaps an additional toggle symbol for annoyance (maybe "!") for those known to make irritating comments during games or  gibes at their opponent to resign.  This would have to be bestowed by others, of course, rather than self-assigned . . . Cool

I think you may be on to something. Additional possible symbols ...

Symbol

Means

1/2 - 1/2

Player is indecisive (or is he?)

O+!

Player writes bad checks (and has a big nose)

O-O

What was his last move? I can’t spot it

##

Player tends to make a big hash of the game

xqsme

Good symbols; "hauf an a hauf" is well known Scottish drink pattern that helps avoid indecislon ( but not indiscretion )

the Visigoths

erm, the Visigoths were an East Germanic tribe prominent during the Migration Period (a period roughly between 300-700 AD).

Didn't they have a severely negative impact on Roman civilization?

I get my history from Asterix comics:

The Visigoths are described as Goths from the West and Ostrogoths as Goths from the East (Ost = "East" in German.) This can be seen as a satire/comment on the division of Germany into East and West at the time, and Obelix's confusion that they had to travel East (from Gaul) to get to the Visigoths who were Goths from the West. As he commented, "these Goths are crazy!"
