Let's talk about politics, religion, competitor sites & engine abuse
That's true. Or perhaps one of David's wingmen deleted while he was quoting
I didn't think anything in the post I quoted merited deletion, so it wasn't me - I'll ask the other mods what might have happened there.
Well... here you can get muted or deleted. That's also the case in North Korea. So... not much difference?
@alex-rodriguez has been neither muted nor his account deleted, so in that case it's actually evidence that Chess.com is NOT like North Korea.
Even if Chess.com were to do those things, alex's freedom to go about his day to day life in the real world and his ability to say what he likes elsewhere on the internet - including on one or more other chess related sites - is not in any way restricted. North Korean dissidents do not enjoy the same freedoms, so equating the two is belittling the hardships they endure. On reflection, that means I'm actually now in favour of deleting alex's original post as well.

What happened to Bilbo's post that got deleted?

I was being sarcastic in that post. And as is often the case when I try to be sarcastic, it wasn't obvious enough.
I wonder how many Staff use their positions to troll. They seem to have a high tolerance level of some of the worst rule breakers and have done so for years and I wonder why that is.
If all of us treated staff and moderators with more respect for the work they do to help preserve a quality experience for the community this would be a great step in the right direction. ![]()
During this season allow me to say thank you for all you do and also to those who feel the same way because you earned it and deserve it.

We the people need to take back chess.com from the corrupt staff and chess.com elite! For far too long, they have abused us, and ignored our rights in favor of their crooked interests! Their reign of terror must stop NOW, and it will, because I am running for chess.com staff! My campaign is a movement of the people, who finally have a chance to make their voices heard! Together, we will take back chess.com and make it a better place for everyone! Please visit my campaign thread to see my detailed platform and join the movement!

"competitor sites" is the worst offense. Chess.com, despite their recent improvements which were actually very good, is still totally in love with censorship.
"engine abuse" I don't see how this could be a problem to write about.
"politics, religion" This is not allowed but I don't understand why. These are important subjects. We just had an election which changed everything and religious violence is getting worse. But we can't write about this stuff.
Big brother is always watching. This place makes me understand what it would be like to live in North Korea.
You've made this comparison before, and it remains as inaccurate as ever - I am fairly sure that any North Koreans speaking about their leadership in the same way that you talk about Chess.com would suffer considerably more significant consequences.
There's a response from @erik to @Richie_and_oprah in https://www.chess.com/forum/view/suggestions/patronizng-letter-from-the-owner, where he makes the key point re: discussions about cheating:
The issue is that it normally gets heated, accusatory, and personal. So we keep it off the main forums.
The same applies to politics and religion.
While it's possible to discuss these things without it becoming "heated, accusatory, and personal", that takes a LOT of effort from the moderators on an ongoing basis, and clearly Erik just doesn't feel that the benefits outweigh the cost.
Did you just delete the post then quote it? Lol
lol... I didn't notice that! But technically speaking, it's more likely that he quoted it and then deleted it.
