My first FIDE rated tournament

Nice "Last minute" update -

Just played a league game against the #4 rated woman in Belgium - Iuliia Morozova, FIDE 2073.

Managed to lose a piece out of the opening, right after swapping the Qs - but with rather 'strangling' compensation. She felt that she had to give it back five moves later...

No sooner has that happened - and I felt the urge to make a long-term sacrifice of the exchange for a pawn.

We played a complex position for some 30 moves, until it got simplified to essentials - Rook against bishop and pawn, with 3 more pawns each one.

We played and played - and then she offers a draw. I say "no" and sacrifice another pawn...

To make a long story short, at the end the draw was just inevitable.

My 2012 FIDE rating will be published in the January 2014 list - based on a 7.5 out 11 result against opposition averaging 1952 (a 2085 performance).

The game (an exciting Sicilian, though with the Q swapped real quick!) will be added later, if public interest warrants it... :-)

And now we finally conclude this topic, as regards content.

One tournament plus four league games later, I have played 12 games against FIDE rated people, rated 1956 on the average.

I got 8 points out of these people - 11 men and one woman (#4 woman player in Belgium, a "woman FIDE master" (yes, this title actually exists. It means that you're really a strong player, but as you're a woman, a special title is available to you 200 points earlier than the parallel, 'general' title).

Eight out of twelve - six victories, four draws, two losses. One of the games actually didn't count as my opponent also received his first FIDE rating after we played.

He received a rating of 2006, this is David Venet. Our game was a very eventful draw.

I received 2012. Considerably lower than my performance (which was 2089 over these 12 games), but I'm actually quite happy to have it.

Thanks, <PsychoFin> :-)

Precious, indeed :-) but it could be used for good or for evil... I don't take these things so seriously. Play chess, look for the adventure, and let the ratings do you justice, one way or the other :-)

That's one thing that we like about chess - the element of justice. You REALLY get what you deserve.
