hey ponz, what is the strength of top level correspondence play? is it stronger than stockfish level?

I have not played top level correspondence chess for decades. It is different now than when I played it.

However, I have played 2 exhibitions on chess.com which had some similiaries to current top level correspondence chess.

To answer your question:  Top level correspondence chess [I am talking about ICCF correspondence chess, not chess.co correspondence chess] is quite a bit stronger than than stockfish level.  [there are several reasons for this]

Here are some of the reasons todays [ICFF] top level correspondence chess is stronger than stockfish level. [palindrome]

1. a strong chess player and strong chess engine is stronger than a chess engine alone.  The player can direct the chess engine to examine certain lines. A player can also direct the chess engine to ignore certain lines.

2. strong chess engines do not know a whole lot about openings. A strong correspondence player does.

3. a very strong correspondence player can make a long range plan--something even the strongest chess engine cannot do. I could give a couple of examples of this from my own games which were played after I stopped correspondence chess but still played exhibitions.

4. a very strong chess engine cannot quite play positional chess as well as a strong human chess player can.  [chess engines are catching up on this]

5. there are probably other reasons which I [with my senility] cannot think of right now.

So this means that I+engine can beat Carlsen+engine. Right?

Of course not, you are not using good logic here.

Yo Muhammad.  What part of "strong player" did you miss in the explanation?

well for a start he is daydreaming of becoming a GM.

I am not aiming to be a GM now. I just thought I can apply engine use to chess better than Carlsen. :P

Carlsen has people who help him. These people are sometimes called "seconds" These people use chess engines often.

Maybe you could apply to be a "second"? Laughing

you must be joking. right?

i thought you will ask "How much will it take to get MC as a trainer!"

MuhammadAreez10

He needs me as a trainer, it is not me who has to defend the title.

To be honest, it's put me off playing. I have a big ego. I'll just continue playing OTB.

Ome problem is the rating system chess.com uses.

kilonewton, I think its difficult to get Magnus as a trainer, but to hire GM Vladimir Georgiev on skype is realistic for a lot of us, and is absolutely fantastic!
