Necro Posting

I'm new to the site but wow... I have never seen so many necro postings on forums!  (necro post = replying to a thread that is very old and long dead)

People reply to topics that are 4 - 5 years old!

Are they just replying in the forum at the same speed they play chess?  Thinking and re-thinking their reply for 4 years before posting?

I ask because I am about reply to a recent post in a thread and then realize that all the other posts are from years ago.  Once I realize how old it is I don't engage, I figure all the other posters have moved on from the topic long ago.

I don't mean to come across as a rant.  It is intended to be an observation.

I'm not used to so many necro posts in a forum.

Chess and necromancy are two facets of the same tainted jewel. Another facet is not washing your hands after you use the toilet but saying that you did.

Just came across this joke earlier today:

Someone: Raising a family is hard
Necromancer: Not if they're buried close enough to each other
Someone: What?
Necromancer: What?

Some people actually use the search function here instead of creating a new thread every time they have a question.

It seems quite understandable in chess where many people are still learning from games played and books written more than a hundred years ago.

I wanted to wait a year before posting here but my left fang was twitching.

There are a select few of us - "Guardians Of The Bump", initiated Jedi like masters entrusted with the transition of spam and old threads into the distant future for cyber archaeologists. Laughed at and mocked we never the less make the vows of our order good.

Exactly, I just had a question of 5.f3 in the sicilian defense so I looked in the old topics and there it was. I read all the answers, which were interesting, but I still had a question, so I bumped the topic.

Of course you are all invited to take a look at the 6-years old topic and provide me with an answer tongue.png
