Wait, what? People are into chess in this site? I'm usually here to hit the forums.
Newbie Community Experiences! Positive/Negative

With new people I enjoy (and try to be) that. Partly because when I was new there was nothing like this, and I always wished I could talk to someone who played and ask for tips.
When the topic is not so much chess, or if the person is a lot more experienced, sometimes I worry I'm more of that. A sort of "I'm right whether you asked or not, and whether you realize it or not"
Anyway, hope your experience has been more positive than negative.
And as for community guidelines, mods are good like you said, but also pretty lax to be honest. As long as you keep in mind there are a lot of kids here and you don't do anything too extreme you wont attract any negative attention from mods.
It's definitely been mostly positive! I do wonder where the strong feelings of right and wrong come from, though. I get that there's a couple proven ways to get better, but with that sort of absolutist approach, we might as well all just memorize top computer lines and nothing else. I have a feeling the community would be rather small if that was all it did.
Hey there! I thought I'd make a post specifically about the chess.com community, and what I've encountered while I've been here. Feel free to post your own experiences/impressions/thoughts!
Positive:
Everyone's super into chess, and usually willing to give some help or advice. I've met many people here who were happy to spend their time helping out a newbie, which is never expected but always appreciated. The tools for sharing chessboards and games are amazing, and really help with the discussions. The mod team seems dedicated and professional, which is a big plus as well. Overall the experience has been great, this place is an amazing resource.
Negative:
Some people are accompanied by a strong smell of hubris. They seemingly love to act haughty, and tell you exactly what they think you're doing wrong, whether you asked or not. It's like a whole "type" of person I've never found anywhere else. Some kind of advice tyrant, rather unique. These people have been the main drawback of my chess experience so far.
I also find the community guidelines a bit convoluted, witnessed some confusion when people try to interpret them.
Wonder what everyone else thinks.
