Here is a crazy thought I had recently. Classical chess has become much less engaging recently due to the amount of prep the top players put in: 15-25 moves of theory. To make classical chess more exciting, and please, someone reply with their thoughts on this: classical chess and ARMAGEDDON games for tournaments should have a rule that you cannot castle your king. This would make armageddon games a huge free for all, and take the classical chess players way out of prep and force them to think on their own with much less computer prep known or available without lots of extra time put in.
I assume my view of this for classical chess is a minority, and maybe chess.com or FIDE could implement "No Castling" tournaments instead to give players the option to try it. This idea has been circling in my mind for a while and wanted to know what other people thought.
