Why join a tournament if you know you will be on vacation ?

OK , I understand. It doesn't seem very practical to have a No-vacation tournament if it takes months to finish. Everybody will need some vacation during such a long period and you can't look that far ahead in your agenda.

if your games start and you don't move, they just time-out and your rating doesn't change. i have just done this to get out of a no vacation tournament that's gone into the 3rd round.
if you make a few moves then time-out, or just resign at the start, you will go down in rating.
