I found a way to offset not only puzzle abandonment but also bot use, that causes the ratings to become deflated. This also combats the effects of those who continually reset the tactics trainer, to try boosting their own ratings. When they do this, it means that many of the puzzles will get get solved multiple times by the same people, who are familiar with them. This will compound the rating of these puzzles dropping, causing them to drop too low for their difficulty level and forcing people to try solving puzzles they aren't ready to solve.
If everyone would miss all of the problems intentionally, until their own rating is 0 or less (I went to -1) and then begin trying to solve them, it not only will allow you the chance to solve many, many puzzles that you ordinarily wouldn't see, just for a refresher course but, it will allow for the adjustment of the puzzles that you'd fail to rise in rating.
If you are worried that you'll never get back to your deserved rating, you will. I already have gotten my Tactics Trainer rating higher then my correspondence rating, as it was before I tried this.
If you feel that you don't want to drop back too far into the beginner or intermediate puzzles, just go back as far as you'd like and start from there.
To all of you who disagree that this is bad, until people stop doing things to deflate the ratings, it is the only way to offset the problem. I really don't see this as a losing proposition for anyone. Sure it will make a bunch of really low rated puzzles harder but, I doubt there are any 400 players here who can't get to 500 or 600 in tactics.
