Of course there inflated I'm a 2200+ at the moment, clearly I'm no where near that good in OTB chess. My OTB chess is 1600-1700 ability last i knew anyway. Even taking into account i can take a lot more time playing my moves and when i feel like playing them i still shouldn't be higher then 2000+ If i am playing good chess.
online chess rating

Its more than just the smaller number of games played. The adverages are higher for on line chess which can not be accounted for by smaller sample size. The adverage score for all players on long game live chess is 1191, but the adverage score of all players for on line chess is 1350. I don't think a disparity that large can be explained in any way other than at least one of them being faulty. An adverage of 1191 seems to make sense because all players start at 1200 which seems to suggest to me that the adverage should be about 1200 since all increasing ratings are dependant on some else's rating going down. The adverage of 1350 seems to suggest that maybe a lot of poor players are playing a couple games and then deleting their accounts or something, artificially inflating the ratings values.
What is up with the ridiculously high online chess ratings? It can’t be that there are just better players on the online chess because even my own rating is ridiculous. My live rating (probably my true rating) bounces between 1400 and 1500 (a bit on the lower side recently), but my on line chess rating is >1800. It appears that this kind of trend holds for most people on this site. It’s a nice ego boost I guess, but what is causing so many on line ratings to be so badly calculated?
