Is it fair to extent the thinking time of a three days online game to four or five days at every move, especially if one has nearly three months of vacation?

What do you think?

Not 100% sure I understand the question but my guess is you are seeing someone that has a lot of games going on at a time. When a premium members gets low on time they will automatically go on vacation (don't recall the exact time but for sure less than 3 hours). They are docked 24 hours of vacation time even if they only use an hour or so.

If they come off of the vacation before a day has passed, they will get some of that time added to the clocks in their games. For example, if your opponent is put on vacation but comes off it in 3 hours, 21 hours will be added to their clock (assuming that doesn't put them over the time control).

Thanks, Martin Stahl, sorry for my English.

What I wanted to know is if you play an online game 3 days a move, the opponent regularly let's the time run down and waits one or two days till next move. So in fact he takes four or five days for his move.

It's according to the rules, sure, he takes his vacation, but do you think it's morally fair play?

While I take three days at the most, the opponent takes four or five days every move using his nearly three months vacation.

Well, I hope I've expressed myself now understandably.

I've used vacation a few times when things just get hectic and I don't have time to commit to giving adequate thought to games in progress. Consistently extending time on games, really isn't in the spirit of the time control but unless they are purposely doing so to extend a losing game, there really isn't much to do but wait it out.

If they do it a lot, they will eventually start running low on available vacation time. Maybe they are just going through a busy time in life and have to rely on the vacation time.

Okay, I see your point, Martin Stahl, but if I would have a busy life time I would set my account on vacation and wait till it's over.

I wouldn't play a three days game and use my vacation time to extend it to four or five days every move.

My opinion only.
