People posting rude messages on player page...

users can already block non-friends from posting on their pages. that's the first step i recommend. but we are going to make it easier for people to find these settings. we are also moving away from "notes", and just to messages.

Does "moving away" mean notes will be eliminated?

The issue you mention, about kids indiscriminately shooting people in schools and elsewhere, is another matter altogether - and has little to do with 'anger' or 'angry young men'.

This is a phenomena that is created by Psychiatry.

Check these senseless shooting cases - in each one of them you'll find that the person in question (the killer) was on Psychiatric drugs, generally from the SSRI family (anti-depressant).

Next, go to a pharmacy and ask to see the consumer's label on "medicine" such as Prozac, Ritalin, Xanax, Concerta - it will say under "secondary effects" - murderous thoughts, violence, suicide. They are well aware of what they are doing.

More material on this, which every citizen on Earth should be aware of, would be found at www.cchr.org, in most commonly used languages on the planet.

I don't think it's really indiscriminate.  Seems quite deliberate in fact.

<ConnorMacleod_151> nice to see you communicating to the point in this thread.

However - relating to your graph in #59 - already from this thread alone it would seem to be the opposite case - with one person (Kasporov) advocating rudeness and general unkindness, venting off of anger on other people - and pretty much everybody else preferring friendly interaction and clever management of anger, when you don't throw your own personal issues on other people who deserve better.

Erik, thanks again for chiming in.  Sounds like a straightforward, common sense approach to solve the problem.

Nothing more to add to this thread.  Thanks to those who gave productive feedback!

And <Erik> please keep the notes :-) I like them. They are nice, friendly decoration to a player page - just like in a garden, you have sometimes to take the weeds out - but it's better than giving it up altogether.

thanks to all the soft, crybabies in this website, the mods are going to delete notes from all the users.

Its nice to see that we can think in creative solutions to adress the problem, and thanks to the people on chess.com who wants to make this a better place for interaction.

Overall, Chess.com has done a great job on stressing tolerance/open-mindedness and having less tolerance for hateful/racist/bigoted comments (especially in chatrooms).

However, I actually see most offensive remarks on people's profiles.  And like many others, I've had a few people post offensive remarks on my profile page (which I deleted).

Yes, I definitely understand that we have the ability to delete these postings, block the offending message poster, etc.  I simply wish there were more tools to prevent people from posting offensive/hateful messages to begin with.

Sometimes I just want to look at the profile of one of my recent opponents.  Here's an example of some of the messages left on their page:

"Pathetic....begging for Internet points"

"Hope you die"

"Extremely weak player...cuz this player has nothing bug lag and weak premoves"

"Ahahah....ugly f***er hahahahaha"

"Avoid this moron"

"No rematch in a bullet game....yet another dishonorable one and run COWARD player"

"run along, pu**"

"I **** your parents bastard"

"Cheats.  Hopes he dies with his family"

"Are your wife and doughter prostitutes?"

"Look at this miserable person, coward, unfair.  A simple piece of **** to avoid, he and all of the s*** of his family"

"DO NOT PLAY.  Just a jerk"

These are comments posted on the profile pages of some of my recent blitz opponents.  As you can see, I've censored some of the foul language.

I feel bad for the people that have had these comments posted on their profile.  And I find it disturbing that people can post such mean/hateful things.

If the upcoming revamp removes the ability for others to post on people's profile, the revamp can't come soon enough!  But if the revamp is going to allow people to post on player profile pages, perhaps Chess.com should reconsider or find a scalable way to discipline the offenders.

I haven't done any actual analysis...but if I were to take a wild guess, I'd say that for every neutral/positive comment I read on someone's page, there are 2 hateful/negative comments somewhere else.

Again-- I get it; every user has the ability to remove these comments, ignore the offender, etc.  But that doesn't prevent people from having to read/endure the comments before doing so.

Thoughts?

Thanks...

I've learned that it's best to ignore trolls by just deleting their notes. I will not name a particular player with bad sportsmanship, out of courtesy to him or her. But I will say that (s)he sent me an abusive message after I beat him/her in live chess, which I ignored as the usual, but what really disturbed me was how abusive other people were being to him/her with their own notes.

0random; you are correct. there is a rule about spamming in the main forums. you just have to get staff's attention, and they usually delete it. thank you.
