Perhaps I should have said this earlier. I have nothing against anime in general or Yui in particular. However, I don't need to explain looking at a chess puzzle during lunch to my co-workers. When, however, there is a picture of an anime girl right underneath the puzzle, what I am doing is much harder to explain to my coworkers. Finally, anime pictures such as daily Yui spam that are unrelated to the puzzle do not belong in that topic - they would be fine in a forum post or group.

Your second point is fine.
The first one holds no water. The ease with which something can be explained to an arbitrary group has no bearing on any aspect of its validity. That notwithstanding, I see it as a very easy thing to explain. "It's about chess but they have open forums and people go posting whatever they want anyway." You don't need to elaborate to them the talking points for and against the moe genre.
