Please Update Tactics

Please start putting objectives in place for the tactics puzzles. If you are going to change a player's tactical rating for mistakes made to a puzzle without a clear cut objective, you are doing people who seek to better their chess skills through "tactics" a disservice.

There is a way to play tactics with a chosen theme on the web-browser, but it's complex to get there.

1. Home>Learn>Tactics

2. At the bottom of the user panel on the right there are three icons for Stats, Tactics Problems, and Settings. Choose Tactics Problems.

3. You will be shown a table of all of the tactics on Chess.com (25 per page). You can sort these by Problem ID, Number of Attempts, Pass Rate, and Average Time. You can also filter these by the type of tactic involved or 1-2-3+ move mates. You can also see the puzzle rating (but you can't sort by that) if you want to pick harder puzzles.

Several downsides to this system:

1. It's a little hard to find.

2. The table is almost a complete give-away as the type of puzzle and number of moves to solve are shown (which will make it easier to score a ridiculously high rating with little effort).

3. You can't currently sort by rating.

4. All of this is unavailable in the app.

So I agree, there could be some improvement to the system, especially for paying members as yourself.

1. Make puzzle selection easier to find and navigate.

2. Reserve puzzle rating only for random practice. User-selected puzzles should always be unrated.
