"first": care/don't care?

I don't care, I never cared, I will never care, and all of the above.

Who know even if they did the puzzle in the "first" place. Some of the very good puzzles take time to solve and I see people posting @ 12:00. Yeah, Right!

artfizz

There was a poll a while back ...

The same boring, unimaginative, repetitive topics continually recur.

28%

Too many contributors post inane comments such as “LOL”, “First!”, “me 2” or “Easy”.

28%

People starting irrelevant forum topics

10%

Embedded youtube videos

7%

... which concluded that people saying "Easy!", "First!", etc. was quite annoying.

rinz

defenitely annoying, as i feel the comments should reflect some analysis instead of serving the purpose of collecting membership points...?!?

you only care for the people that give an answer you like, how silly is that? you've got almost 2000 views and not even 100 answer of which 40% unclear and 30 defo doesn't care. you´ve got 20 post that care of 2000 views = 1%.

Answer: almost nobody cares, destroy thread and pick a new topic!

1) I don't only care for the people that give an answer I like, it's just that I give a two answer question and some people don't give me an actual answer so It's annoying because there needs to either be a majority of votes in "care" or "don't care" which there isn't.

2) I work out % by how many people have voted, not viewed.

3) I do agree that it isn't a very good topic so I am thinking about starting a new topic but I will keep this one up.

4) I saw that someone had done a topic of "song titles in a chess world" so I thought that I could do "film titles in a chess world". What do you think?

I think it´s fine, I think anything is fine really apart from forcing an answer especially when it´s about caring because the viewers that don´t give an answer at all already show they don´t care. Go ahead!

I don't care.

CBTemple

Care.

First, because I read the posts to see what a continuation might be, or to clarify something about the puzzle I didn't understand.

Second, because if you look at the time stamp of the responses, "first" is always at exactly 3:00 a.m. (EDT), which is when the puzzle is first posted.  In most cases it's impossible to solve the puzzle, then write the word 'first', then send it---all in the same minute.  Sundays maybe...but not most days.

I don't like posts saying: "First", "second", "easy" ...

All of these posts makes harder to read (several pages) the comments about movements and explanations about the puzzle. That's the real interest in reading the posts, in my honest opinion.

(copied this, but I feel the same way)

I don't mind people saying 'First' whatsoever (i've never been the first to solve a puzzle btw!).

What really does annoy me though is people making a big deal out of it!!

Almost always after a person has posted 'First', there'll be some (i think jealous) people making a massive deal out of, turning it into some kind of debate! THAT's what makes the posts harder to read!

So what if someone said 'First'!? Good for them! I don't understand why so many people feel offended by that one worded comment!

fatpaul

I haven't really seen the original thread, so I don't know the value or benefit of posting first. It is annoying when you try to learn idea's from reading threads, and all you see on the page is first or whatever. If the idea behind it is (or should be) to get conversations started when there's no discussion going on then people should remember that and only use it when no one is posting important replies about the game.

That means I care and also hope people can try to use the first posts only because there's nothing of importance happening through commenting on the puzzle.

pathfinder416

We should all care. Think about what the alternatives are if they're banned: (1) the firsters end up playing baseball or soccer or some other fitness-inducing activity, or (2) the firsters end up out on the street skateboarding into parked cars, or (3) the firsters ... um ... notice that they can play chess here.

HeartOfStone

Annoying, but people have the right to free speech, so we just need to live with it. This is one of the first things you learn when participating in an online community.

My vote goes to "don't care". Fortunately, I don't normally feel the need to go through the comments under the puzzle.

theblindtiger

Don't care is another phrase for "help me" in some teacher's ears.

lukemcqueen

Don't care. As far as I can tell the comments are only useful if someone is confused about the puzzle and asks for help or if someone posts analysis. There is usually at least one quality post like that on the very first page.

Get a life you looser. Stop worrying about other peoples posts and go out and meet people. You clearly have too much time on you hands to be sat there analysing who likes to see "First" or not..... oh and 106th by the way

loli78

hi there , looks like you have very strong feelings about chess , but  a lot of people do not value or see the game the way you do , i think people have the right to say anything they want as long as they do not offend anyone . if i make a comment on the puzzles i usually comment on there strength and not how many moves it took me to solve . conclusion ! i care but i do not see nothing wrong with someone saying 1--2 ---or 40

kind regards
