Scid vs. PC question...

For experienced Scid vs. PC users, I have a question... Is it possible when annotating a game to insert various lines (variations) from other games into your annotations? For example, on move 6 my opponent played 6..Be7, but I found a game where a GM played 6..Bb4 and I'd like to include at least some of that game in my annotations. I'm basically trying to build detailed opening files.

You can add any variations. It's probably easiest if you have another large database of games and open it as a tree, then you can insert games or parts of games that way. It's been a while since I've done that, but as I recall, it's pretty easy.

@Martin_Stahl Thanks for your response. I do have a large reference database with millions of games, but I guess my issue is that when I pull up a game that I'd like to use in my annotations, I don't know how to copy the game and insert it as a variation in my analysis. I'm sure the solution is simple, but I'm just not finding any information that is useful.

There may be different ways to do it but here's how I have done it.

• Open your reference database as a Tree.
• In the game you are annotating, get to the position you are interested in and in the tree panel, click the Best Games dialog at the bottom and you'll get a list of games that had that position.
• Select one of the games, right-click, and Merge. You'll get to choose how many moves to merge. You can also use the Browse option on the games and use the Merge from that dialog as well.
  

As I said, there may be other ways to do it too.

You can also highlight / copy the variation text, then select Edit->Paste Variation
