Software use is rampant.

It's just not a good idea being fair here. It's tiring playing guys who despite similar ranking play like GMs.

It's just tiring.

thecheesykid

You're at the 1300 level, I doubt you've played many cheaters tbh, it's all in your head. :)

ColonelKnight

Look, these guys use it to make sure they hold their rankings. Some games they play on their own.

I've heard and disproved your argument from others using an analysis engine in the past. I downloaded games and ran them through an engine. So don't tell me I don't know what I am talking about.

ColonelKnight

I computer analyzed my just concluded game with this player.

The engine suggests he made a "mistake" on only ONE move. No inaccuracies, no blunders.

What are the odds?

Was that using the chess.com analysis feature? Because I think that it doesn't mention inaccuracies by your opponent, only their mistakes and blunders

These are the games you played against the opponent who shall remain unnamed so as not to accuse, I've pointed out the mistakes that your opponent made, he simply played better than you.

You just can't check everybody's play, can you? So many members, so many games can't be under control every second. I don't know if your opponent was cheating, but cheaters exist everywhere because of the progress of technology.

BryanK3

For the most part it doesn't really matter to me whether opponents are "cheating" in games, because my primary purpose is to learn by playing.  So instead of wondering "wow, what an unexpected and great move, is he cheating?" I'm more likely to think "wow, what an unexpected and great move, I'm really going to have to think through this one."

I do feel some sadness for anyone who feels like the need to cheat, but I'll leave them to find help for their insecurities while I focus on improving my game, reagardless of my opponent (or game engine).

Zigwurst

You aren't playing Standard or Correspondence chess, how exactly do you think people are cheating?

ColonelKnight

@thecheesykid

The point is: he is at my level! How come he is making all the right moves? Sure I make mistakes, but how does he know how to make the most of them? How is he dead on?

Zigwurst

Play the board, not the player.

thecheesykid

I've lost countless times to somebody my level 3-0.

Sometimes it's their day, sometimes it's your day.

He was on his game, but he was clearly making mistakes.

ColonelKnight

Well, thanks for the analysis. Appreciate it. But this guy was just too strong in the end game. Still seems fishy to me, because guys at our level play in a certain manner - not him. Anyhow, will take your word for it - you clearly know what you're talking about!

That's very fair advice. I am learning that as well.
