stall/disable chat

Is it a common (or accepted) occurrence for one to stall and disable chat when someone speaks to them? I was playing someone in a 15/10 standard; he has stalled for at least 10 minutes so far and when I asked him a few minutes ago if he was there ("hello?"), immediately he disabled chat. It seems rather odd and rude.

It is a bit rude, but imagine you were in a normal game, clock nearby, your opponent hasn't made a move in awhile and you go, "Uh...hello? Anybody home up there?" The glare you would receive wouldn't be any different from our "Disable Chat" feature lol

So to more fully answer your question, it isn't exactly rare. More uncommon than anything. If they don't want to talk, let them be that way. Their choice.

That is true. :P

Though, I think it was pretty obvious that he was stalling as he was in a completely losing position and didn't move until he had 15 seconds left (starting from 11 minutes or so) It wasn't so much I wanted to talk and was annoyed that they wouldn't than it felt like they were still there but just stalling to annoy me.

But thanks for the advice. :)

When I was playing in my State's Scholastic Fed. I found many players not exactly stalling, but taking massive amounts of time to think. To combat this I simply started running complicated calculations on the board and running them all through my head. I even started the game over and replayed the moves to see where things could've gone better. ...it passed the time lol
