Nimzo, no need to apologise. You ask a reasonable question. Check with Erik as you say. No issue at all possible.

As best I can tell.  1) cheaters are culled, but apparently let back in.  Whether this is a conscious decision or not by the mods seems besides the point.  2) cheating players can redeem themselves with good behavior going into the future.  3) There's some tiff (of unknown origin) with @Goldendog.  And, 4) This thread has yet to be locked.

Just another day in this sleepy, nutty, chess town?

I need some more tea to wake myself up.  Such a topsy turvy world we inhabit here.

bronsteinitz

Cheers Z, have a great day.

I have seen all three of the banned cheaters you mentioned (joey, johnnymusacha, and snakesbelly) back here with new accounts and they were re-banned rather quickly.

They were not behaving very well.

zborg

Can't tell the players without a program.  There's money to made if someone produces an accurate "Colorful Members" Directory.  Will sell like hotcakes, or waffles.

When did snakes come back?

kco

"he sssslither here and sssslither there"

corrijean

IMO, snakesbelly2 was him. Joined about a week ago. Don't know if he's still here.

Perhaps a couple other times.

Keep in mind I am just making guesses. But I think I have a fairly accurate track record of spotting people.

AndyClifton

Yeah, I remember seeing 2 (for a little while anyway).

AlCzervik

Damn, I missed the sssslithering. And he didn't even stop by to say hi.

bronsteinitz

Corri, snakesbelly2 was not him. The younster that pulled that joke has changed his name to taljechin, because was getting to much attention that he was not expecting. That teenager was certainly not behaving badly. I know him because he plays chess in my club. So for this one you spotted a joker, that got a lot of unexpected attention...

AlCzervik

Haha! I bet he got a lot of attention! I can just imagine him logging on and wondering what the hell is happening!!

bronsteinitz

Yes, i was to blame a bit for it because i discussed with him some of the postings of bowerick and my friend chose snakes2. He scared his pants off when the whole world was contacting him... I would have warned him, but i did not imagine that...

corrijean

A very bad joke to name yourself after a cheater.

CalamityChristie

i remember johnmusacha coming back as Elvis. it was a good impression but in the end he swayed his hips exactly like johnmusacha, not Elvis, so that was that!

Yeah, well... We are the stuff dreams are made of ( don't know why I say that, It just crossed my mind)

Wether you like them or not, they bring colour in this site. Would this place be the same without such figures? I guess not. It's better than asking what the best opening is for white: e4 or d4.

@OP: This thread should have been posted in the Cheating Forum, and I think you knew that.

kohai has stated unequivocally that cheaters are not allowed back. You cite erik as your authority, but you have resisted giving more convincing evidence, so until you do, your statement will always be regarded with skepticism by some.

Many others have given level-headed perspectives. Simply put, I, for one, trust what I learn directly from staff, rather than information obtained second- or thirdhand.

CalamityChristie

very negative (i never visited that forum myself).

Ruby-Fischer

Chess. com have absolute right to ban anyone, and thats fine.

But.. innocent until proven guilty. No one on these forums have seen evidence and facts for themselves.

Also cheating is bad, but so is making comments about people who are no longer able to defend themselves.

2) anybody that is banned for use of engines, can come back on the site, with a new username and start a new chess.com life, ON THE CONDITION that they not cheat again.

What prevents them from signing in with a new username, without that condition?

Well one thing for sure is that if they come back with new names that Chess.com is aware of then the wrongdoers will be easier to monitor the second time around.

Yeah right. The cheaters are going to announce proudly to Chess.com that they cheated once and are back with another username.
