I think Gelfand will beat Grischuk, and Carlsen plays Anand in a WC match.

Right now (~move 30 of game 2) it looks like Grischuk has an advantage. (B+N vs R+P, with Gelfand's R@f4 being horribly misplaced). But this at least is a 6 game match which should favor the stronger candidate.
Grischuk is a fantastic player when the material and position is unbalanced.
I would be so scared to have my rook stuck there! It's like a slow constriction going on.

nobody will fund a grischuck vs anand or gelfand vs anand match. like in 2000 when kramnik played kasparov despite shirov winning the match vs kramnik earlier
Somebody will. Things were different back then, Kasparov had his own federation and he wasn't easy to negotiate as usual, and there were no regular cycles carried out by a single governing body. Besides, why would a match between Carlsen and Anand be more significant? Carlsen didn't even bother to fight for the right to challenge Anand.
...because Carlsen is a very popular and talented player, has achieved the second highest rating in history, etc. whereas Grischuk, he has shown that he can win a blitz game.

we agree
OK that makes sense but he also held his own in 4 games against Kramnik, and quitting the cycle is worse than offering draws at move 8 in my opinion.

I doubt that there will actually be such shenanigans as a Carlsen-Anand final unless there is a prolonged debate. Carlsen did skip the cycle and it would not be fitting for him to just get a free pass, but Grischuk hasn't proven that he is a real contender; he needs to do better than hold his own in the final.
We've reached time-control, and I have no idea whether Grischuk will win this, or will Gelfand draw. Excellent game!
Yes, I think the next cycle should include 6 slow games + 4 rapids + longer blitz matches (at least 4 games) and for the final, 8 slow games + the same.
Draw! Good game! At one point, if Grischuk made a3, it looked even more difficult for Gelfand to hold a draw than the line Grischuk had taken. But, these guys have superb defensive skills! A really good match thus far. (And worth waking up in the morning
)
True, trysts, but the GMs at ICC believed that even after a3, White could draw.
Oh, you were watching it at ICC. Which grandmasters were commenting over there?
I bet Grischuk all the way.
