my secret to happiness is this:

hopefully there are more like it :P
This would be great, maybe a 'one good thing that happened today' or 'one nice thing I did for someone today' thread? Merry Christmas all :)
(totally ready to get shot down for this post but I don't care!!)
I think my threads are nice. At least I try to make them so. And I try to only post on ones where I know the OP is trying to keep them as such or at least making the effort and there ARE a lot of them if you just look.
Having a 'nice' thread is usually down to the OP and encouraging posters to be 'relevent, helpful and nice'. Sometimes it's a shame when a well-thought out and intelligent post is ruined by the glib one-liner brigade, who just like to flame arguments.
And it's a shame when these useful and smart posts get 'lost'... maybe the OP should be able to remove innapropriate posts at their discretion (like SA's can remove notes). Or at least if they block someone, all their posts should disappear.
Blocking shouldn't necessarily be on a permanent basis either, it maybe should be thread-specific. If someone is blocked from one of the OP's threads, it shouldn't mean they're blocked in all of them. I have a number of people I blocked because of their comments in a particular thread of mine or elsewhere; it doesn't necessarily mean I want to permanently block them.
Thankfully, there are lots of really good, quality, popular and long-standing or just plain simple but fun threads that have been happily self-regulating for a long time.
There are also plenty of really nice, intelligent, respectful grown-ups on here too and I personally think they're in the vast majority. It's just that the few bad posters seem to get the attention. The secret is ... don't give it to them.
I'm no angel,
we all get it wrong once in a while... tolerance is also a useful tool and the second chance.
(This has been brought to you by me ... whilst sporting the worst hangover known to womankind since the creation of the universe).

What a good idea, DO IT!
Thank you Babytigrrr for a wise and insightful post and for being able to string that many words together with a massive hangover! (oh and for the two word game if I havent mentioned that before lol)

well said babytigerr. While there is the occassional troll who really just come in the forums to instigate arguments, on the most part, what gets created is largely caused by misunderstandings. When so many people post and the forums proceed fast, its easy to lose sight of what is going on and why. More importantly. once name calling comes into play, such as selfish and attention seeker without understanding what is at the bottom of the post. Then all hell breaks loose for no reason. You have always been respectful in your posts even when you disagree. None of what was said that day was directed at you. i know you thought it was(i saw the note you sent to my friend) but it wasnt.
No it's not. This one took off like lit kerosene, yours didn't.
your right i never noticed that thread before.. over a year and a half ago it is well hidden in here.. i just think people should make more effort to be nice.
hopefully there are more like it :P

great idea sharon...
no one should be shot down. The only time we should be looking down on anyone is to give them a hand up.
Hi, I promise to be nice on this thread.
Sometimes, however, it may be De rigueur to engage in serious verbal H2H on some of the others.
My boss would fire me if he knew I did this. I work part time as a security officer for a certain church denomination administrative building. Late afternoons as dark approaches I stand in the parking lot while the employees walk out to their cars. One time I saw this evidently homeless guy curled up with his belongings next to a rock wall in the sun dozing. He wasn't easily visible to anyone but me but I realized it was my job to keep "transients" off church property. That was mentioned as a definite part of my job. But I let him sleep there for about an hour and a half. Finally no more staff were leaving and the guy got up and said from about 30 feet away, "Sir, I know you saw me and I want to thank you for letting me be... I was just so tired and it was so nice there in the sun." I answered, "you weren't doing any harm.... just don't tell my boss!" I felt so good about the incident that I was happy for a week! I would risk the loss of my job again if I thought I could help another "down and outer".
thats what its all about flatters. the best christmas i had was my family forgoing presents to buy a bunch for the homeless. We bought 100 each Hats gloves and scarves, then wrapped them all and passed them out to the homeless and forgotten on what was a very cold christmas day in manhattan. I brought my nieces.. we all had such a great feeling that day. Going to repeat it this year with my twins.
flatters1, that's honestly very cool...it's really awesome that not only did you treat him with respect, also that he returned the acknowledgment.
I've been homeless on occasion, without so much as the price of a cup of coffee in my pocket, and it's good people like you that really do make a positive difference to folks who are down on thier luck.
You all suck!!!!!!!!!!
*purposely said to say something not nice in a nice thread, thereby trolling you*
Ah. I see. Well played, Mr. Bond.
Bond hah? interesting... is that you pinocchio?
