I think if you have a totally winning position in daily chess you should not care if you get the win now or in 3 months. Why does it matter?
The please resign-button

in times like those if I wasnt on the side of the lost position trying to learn more endgames and capitalize on any blunders to be made (im usually on that bad side ftr) I think of hearing "if you see a good move try to make a better one", treat each of those "won" games as a tactics puzzle and try to inflict the fastest or most beautiful checkmate. but wether you win now or in a month youve still all but one, you should have no reason to worry regardless of your opponent playing on.

Resigning is definitely a good thing, but I tell my students to only resign when there is nothing left to learn in a position. In the case of a lower rated opponent, perhaps they do not realize it is hopeless, or they think they can learn from your technique. In which case you should play it out, as the game is for their benefit.
I understand daily games being a problem, as they could drag months, and may interfere with your IRL schedule. I have in the past chatted with my opponent over resigning. (I have asked for and been asked for a resignation in the chat) I have seen these requests always honored if a good explanation is given. i.e. I am going on vacation for a week can we please hurry or end this game?

Do we need a "please resign-button"? Do you have the experience, particularly with daily chess, that an opponent drags on for many, many moves in a totally lost position? And using the maximum time to do the next move? When you look at the buttons, all you can do in a game is to resign or offer a draw. But sometimes I wished there was also the "please resign" button. To let your opponent know it's been enough. Of ccourse you can never force your opponent to resign if he chooses to play until mate is given. But at least you can let him know what you think of the game and his useless resistance.
In speedchess things are different. Time is a factor there. But dailychess with 3 days per move? Sometimes I wish the please resign-button existed. But I'm afraid it might also be abused. That players use it inappropriately. Like offering a draw in a totally lost position, which I always think is a bit of an insult. But sometimes I whish the please resin-button existed.

Come to think of it... the idea isn't entirely ridiculous. It would basically work like a draw offer, only instead of offering for the game to be a draw, one side offers for the game to be a loss for the other person. As with draw offers, the request can be accepted or declined.

The button you want is allready there for a long time. It is the button with the balloon called chat. If you click it you can type in Please Resign and send it to your opponent (in the game window) You can even motivate why you think it is a loss.....

That would be really rude if such a button existed and anyways you are not entitled to your opponent resigning, ever.
Just use premoves.
what do I think? Its rude. You will get people using this game repeatedly as gamesmanship and to annoy opponents.
In OTB chess you do not say 'please resign' to your opponent, do you?

Only if he has a winning position.

I actually have great respect for opponents that can continue playing in a lost position so long as they do it quickly, say several moves a day despite the 3 day a move a limit. Using all the time is called "stalling" and repeated offenses of it can lead to a termination of their account. Using chat might only work if you used Google Translate assuming they weren't lying about what country they are from. I have too much pride to just keep playing and I always feel like I have too many games in progress, even though I've seen people with ten times more than me, to waste all that time and mental energy when it is hopeless. I always marvel at how humble some people are that they just keep playing. They don't use way too much time but they keep battling. I almost envy that ability.
I agree such a button should there. Please link it to

Do you think that nagging someone with the "please resign" button would be nice? Some would overuse it from move one etc., let alone the fact that is shows lack of respect for your opponent. Except in such situations why not give yourself a challenge of finding the best (quickest) way to win and after the game analyze the endgame with an engine? For me it's quite instructive to find out that I missed mate in 4 and it took me 10 moves to win By the way, a few days ago I posted a blog article on resignations - "To Resign or Not to Resign" - it focuses on premature resignations
I also recommend Jeremy Silman's great article: "When Is the Right Time to Resign?" And let me quote Jeremy Silman: "Resign if you’re so inclined, but play on if you feel you might get lucky or if you want to learn by watching your opponent’s winning technique."

We need a 'please delete this nonsense thread' button
