The Meaty Game
The Good, The Bad, The Weird
I'm sure some of you read that title and immediately thought that we were going to be illustrating how to trim the fat off of your nice big steak, and how to rinse your chitlins really well (you better rinse those real good). But no, folks. Today we're going to be talking about what's good about your meat, and also what's potentially dangerous about it.
I hope you're munching on a cheese burger when you read this :D because this concerns you. If you're sitting at McDonald's then I promise you there's nothing in today's show that'll make you spray your mouthful all over the place. We're just going to weigh our options a bit; for too long have we watched the butcher scale our meat and then speak gibberish to us like those prices are supposed to make sense; today we're doing the weighing!
The Good
It's tasty. I don't think anybody can deny that no matter their grounds. It tastes good, period. Especially a braai (barbeque), and all the various forms of slow roasts.
It's full of lean protein and a healthy dose of calories. If you were tuned in for the Skynet episode then you already know just how good those two things are for you.
Also, it probably has other minerals and stuff that your body can make use of, which (all things considered) makes it quite a sustaining meal.
The Bad
Too much of anything can be bad for you, and the same applies of meat. Even drinking too much water in one setting can give you acute water poisoning, which basically means you just drowned on your bottle of mineral water. Who would have ever thought that. Not the 'fell off the cruise ship on a drunken night' type of drowning, but the 'oh, snap! I just overloaded my body with way more water than it could ever handle' type of drowning.
But it doesn't end there; partaking of the flesh also comes with a whole bunch of other risks that are specific to meat consumption. There have been so many cases of diseases and viral outbreaks that have been linked to meat consumption, and these cases even date back centuries. We're talking swine flu, we're talking swine flu, we're talking lol. It's probably safe to say that we do not want the same type of flue as swine. And it's certainly safe to say that we should probably stop consuming meat everyday, not to mention all day.
The Weird
In the Skynet episode we talked about the human body being a very complex organism. Think of it as a miniature ocean teeming with a variety of life. Yes, that's right! Our bodies are made up of many other smaller species of life. And if you listen really closely you can hear them speak... NOT! #Borat
Well, it turns out that animals are just the same, especially the bigger ones such as cows and pigs. We're all mammals. That's worth thinking about for a second or two...
If these animal's bodies are as complex as our own, is it really safe to consume them. Is it really safe to take an ocean from Jupiter and introduce it into our ocean on earth? We're not just talking about introducing one fish here people, we're talking about an entire ocean. What happens if a family of monster piranhas decide to break loose and start attacking everything? What if earth Kraken meets Jupiter Kraken and they start slapping the freak out of each other?
It is the similarities in our bodies that make it potentially dangerous to consume meat. Mammals eating mammals is dangerous business. For example, a virus that kills cows could definitely work on humans as well, but it's obviously less likely to work on ants. When complex bodies meet other complex bodies they are no longer worlds apart, and if we then consume each other then things can get weird over time. Maybe a good weird, or maybe a bad weird. Maybe you simply get stronger from a cow's proteins and hormones and you develop mad muscles (yay). Or maybe the bacteria and the cells of a cow start attacking our own after we've eaten it. Or maybe the cells actually get along, seeing how similarly complex they are. What if they actually get along and evolution takes its place and attempts to unify the cells from the animals we consume and our own? This is how we end up with cancer, folks. This is how we end up with cell mutation. It's worth thinking about, because it's your health.
It Gets Weirder
If you're one of those people who believe in Darwinism, then you must consider yourself to be a descendant of the apes #KingKong.
Well, it turns out apes did not and do not consume complex meats. So that would mean humans basically went #WrongTurn and partook of the forbidden fruit. And if there's one thing we know about those guys in Wrong Turn it's that their choice of 'diet' really messed those guys up. They mutated, which is what cancer is. So... if Darwinism is your choice of theory, then eating meat means you're in that much more danger of developing an illness from regular meat consumption.
I'm W, your host. Thank you for joining us on this special edition of The WSama Show, and you're welcome to ship me a pound or two of Korean barbecue beef as a token of your appreciation - I'd love that.
