Trolling has nothing to do with supernaural beings. It means baiting, such as fishermen do using lures.

So trolls try to bait other members into behaving badly? Or are trolls the bait? I'm getting confused on this. When I first came to Chess.com, a troll was some sort of sex predator.
Trolls are supposed to bait, however, this isn't really the case for chess.com.
Trolling only occurs when an anti-troll starts derailing the supposed troll and they get in a fight
now trolls just ask riddles so you cant cross their bridges.

Trolls usually make outlandish comments, statements or threads, although quite often rather cleverly, for no purpose other than to elicit repsonses. They troll for responses, not for insight or discourse.
