well i think it's dishonest to post a picture that is not really you!!! But all that should matter is the chess game anyway, as one person said, this isn't match.com. But men drool, woman rule, as the saying goes....It's the old "French defense" against 1e4 if you know what i mean..... I have suggested the option to have webcams for online chess if both sides agree... well this question has certainly given us alot to think about hasn't it!!! time for my nap and then maybe some endgame theory study and an online game later...

skibaby is absolutely right the same guys that are hitting on him are the same guys calling chat lines thinking they are talking to a 21 yr old and not some 75 yr old gramma. my pic has been hit on by all types young and old.
Lets just be respectful of one another, whether it be male or female, it works both ways. Chess is a game of the minds, not sexes. Sexiness does not apply here. Your move.
That's exactly why I don't post my pic on my profile. I just know the women would be there like moths round a candle, and I don't want to distract them from their chess
The name of the topic made me laugh. Very true though. Usually when I play female players I won't talk unless spoken to because I don't want to be perceived as a creep or whatever. But you are exactly right about the creepers. They are everywhere.. even a chess site.

It's not desperate, it's called initiative. You never know what can happen, "Hey beautiful" could lead to an "I do" later on. Plus the disable chat option is always availible for the men or women being hit on. I said men because women do the same thing, but from the look of your picture you wouldn't know anything about it.
Who edits the avatars anyway. I saw an avatar of Osama Bin Laden and his screen name is Jesus, I find this offensive and in poor taste.

A true story: Awhile back I was playing some correspondence chess (snail mail) with a cousin of my wife's who happens to be a 7 year old girl. After clearing it with Erik, I talked with her parents about moving our games here. Eventually they decided not to set up an account for her, even though children under 13 can play as long as they are supervised by their parents.
Part of what spooked them away was the stern warning I had to give them that it would be unwise for her to have a handle or avatar that even remotely suggested that she was female. Why? Because of all the assinine notes I've seen on so many women's profiles written by socially inept guys hitting on them, of course! (If you don't believe me, just go look at a few. It's sad really.)
As someone said: this isn't match.com and there are a lot of better places to try and meet women than on a chess site where men outnumber the women by 30:1. It's not "initiative" hitting on women here, it's more like setting yourself up for a helpmate in 1...
Any girl interested to date a famous superhero?? 
who cares! Let the lonely people hit on the online chicks because it gives them something to brag about at work. As a chick does in real life give them the cold shoulder or ignore them, problem solved =)
Don't mention your sex, age or even if you could, your status. Just play serious. Girls are as good as men.

You can never be sure of who you are playing against. There may be some people on this site who are incarcerated. Ever think about that?

I have never understood why anyone would post an avatar of a real person anyway if its not actually them ? Ofcourse I am not really a cat but I just assume that there is noone out there who might think I am. A guy who puts up an avatar of a pretty gal has "issues" if you ask me. I really dont get why people lie about their age in their profiles here ( and other places too ) either. The information about age is not required so just dont give it if you dont want people to know. Why lie ?! As for you pretty gals who complain about being "hit on" all you have to do is block the offenders OR dont let it be known that you are female. Problem solved.
