Top Ten List

I wish I would have had a better greeter when I joined....  He timed out, and I didn't get any points for it.  Really annoyed me for playing over a month and suddenly he times out, and I get no credit.  I now only play people that will guarantee they won't time out on me, and maybe make moves a little quicker.  Game I'm playing now is at least averaging two moves a day.  Greeter also didn't know much about the site itself.  I was having a technical problem of not being made aware of my alerts via email, and it's still sporadic.  I'll be told it's my move, etc. only one in every 5 or 6 occurances.

Great Top 10 list, though!

Thak you  billwall, for the answer, could you please tell where I can find players 'a list of players) that've finished over 500 games? It's for a tourney that's gonna start pretty soon, thx!

MrZugzwang

I have just finished David Shenk's thoroughly enjoyable book "The Immortal Game" which contains numerous credits to Bill Wall in the appendix.  Bill's vast accumulation of chess history, trivia, you name it -- is a treasure generously shared with the worldwide chess community.  You could spend a year or so just exploring his collection of chess links on the web.

If you like chess history and some very interesting insights into chess connections with art, psychology, et al -- get the book!

I'll give it a look,thank you!

Gab,

Click on Online Chess, click View Players, choose Sort by Most # of Games and you get a list of players with the most number of games (there's your list of 500 or more).

Yes, David Shenk sent me an early copy of his book and I found or corrected dozens of early items.  Later, I found more items that could have been corrected, but his deadline was approaching and he had to submit what he had, so a few mistakes or errors got by. Thanks Zugswang.

I also provided a chapter of famous people who play chess for Maurice Ashley's Chess for Success book, written in 2005.  My list has about 1,000 famous people or celebrities who play chess.  See http://www.geocities.com/siliconvalley/lab/7378/famous.htm

And Eric Schiller is nice enough to include some of my crazy openings and variations in his books.

I may update the top 10 list soon.  It's been awhile, and some people come and go.

Do you know if there is a way to find the top 10 in chess mentor?  :)

Wow, this is SOOO outdated. 101,000 points is the highest in Endless Chess Quiz? The highest now is over 1,000,000. And for the member points, I have more points than 10th place person. Is it possible to update these?

stewardjandstewardj

I recognise BillWall only because I passed him up on the Endless Chess Quiz leaderboard a while ago. Other than that, I recognise no one. XD

stewardjandstewardj

How do you figure out the top 10 people in anything anyways?

DollyZappier

Wow!

stewardjandstewardj

Can you update this or something please???

BillWall had a very good reason - the same reason as other "top players" from the Ouachita's era - to retire from this site hurriedly, and probably he never comes back.
