But I love auto-vacation time and I would fight to keep it as a privilege of paying members.  Why?  Sometimes stuff happens in life and you are unable to return to your computer / get online ... like a sudden bout in hospital... or maybe you all of a sudden just couldn't be bothered logging in because of a death of a friend / family member.  It is nice to know that if something like that happens, my games will be paused.  I see nothing wrong with that. If someone else I was playing decided to go on vacation because the end is near then you know what I would do?  Nothing.  Let them waste/use their vacation time as they see fit.  What difference does it really make? +1

The problem is that when someone takes a long vacation they are forcing you to either resign or continue babysitting the game until they feel like coming back from vacation.

I feel this way and I am a premium member.  I have people do this to me and it's madening.  I have a game going with someone that goes into vacation mode every 3 days and then stays in vacation mode for 3 or 4 days.  I know you get a lot of vacation time with premium membership.  This could go on for a long time and it's rude.  Play or quit.

The claim of having to "babysit" the game is nonsense.  Chess.com lets you know when it's your move again whether it's been an hour or a couple months since you submitted your previous move.

How does chess.com let you know when it's your turn?  The only way I know that is by going to the site.  Am I missing something?  I'm serious.

Uh, that's what I meant.  They're not going to telephone you.  But no one needs to keep going to and watching one specific game to see when a move has been made as long as they are doing anything else at all on chess.com.

If you guys don't like vacation, then you should play in non-vacation tournaments. Personally, auto vacation is great as a premium member, although I've only used one day of vacation in my entire time playing. I was at a three day OTB tournament (state high school) and it saved me about 50 games of time outs.

If this bothers you, then id suggest entering No Vacation Tournaments.

I get an e-mail when it's my move in a game. They don't send one for every game, as there is a timeout mechanism in place to prevent game notification spams. I also don't think they send one if you are on the site at the time but you do get the Alert box with the notification.

As long as you haven't changed your alert setttings you should be getting those anyway.

Cystem_Phailure

When I first joined I had those email alerts set, and I was particularly interested in the ones that would warn me when I was running out of time (I had an unpaid account for a few months, and thus no auto-vacation).  I found the alerts could be sent late enough so as to be of no use.  Chess.com isn't very good at keeping track of time on CC games (auto-vacation mode will kick in long before a game is ready to timeout, for instance).  That's just part of the nature of the beast.

CaptainPike

I am in a tournament where one member has taken a vacation. When this vacation is over, the player as about 20 games to play. Over 100 participants are waiting for this one player.

Its extremely inconsiderate, but I think its just something we have to tolerate when playing online chess.

This is interesting. Aggravated because others aren't monitoring their games and the site night and day, but not monitoring their games and the site night and day.
