Vote Chess Ladder

Ok, this hasn't come up for a while.

The vote chess leaderboard

http://www.chess.com/groups/votechess_leaderboard.html

is really complicated, and I doubt whetheranybody reallu understands how it works.

Points are awarded for activity, not performance.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, it is time to get some sort of sensible system.

I think we need a ladder. If chess.com can't do it, I am quite prepared to some work into it, but I'll need some help.

Here's what I'm thinking:

  • We create a control group, where teams that want to join the ladder become members.
  • We decide on the format of the ladder, who is allowed to challenge who, what challenges must be accepted, or could be declined, movement of tems after results, etc
  • I suggest for starters, we use the order of the current leaderboard (we have to start somewhere)
  • Once we have a number of teams up and going, new teams wanting to join, join at the bottom.

Please let me know of any teams that would be interested in such an endeavour, and also individuals who would be able to help with the admin.

I shot an arrow in the air, it fell to earth, I know not where...

Here is an idea:

only people who are below you by at most three can challenge you

one below-you can choose whether or not to play them.

two below-a coin flip, heads you play them, tails they can decide.

threee below-you must play them

If you challenge someone and you win, you switch places with them.  If you challenge someone and you lose, then you go down one space and they go up one space.

Ok, But I think we'll have to be able to move along quicker, at average 4 months per game it will take years to move up 20 places.

My thought was to allow a greater range, say 10 positions, also allow (or even insist on) multiple concurrent games, with the new position coming into effect as soon as a game is completed.

Anybody else with any thoughts? Or will this just die.....
