Vote Chess Ratings???

What if the team is lousy and the majority votes loses a lot of games, but the only players that get good points are the ones who keep losing games.  Shouldnt recruiters know that as well and shoulnt every player that made the majority votes that lost the game be penilized for losing said game by deducting poing from every move that they made causing the loss, while those that didnt get rewarded for not losing the game?

If you are not good at VC, then you are most likley a new or a player thats learning the game.  And every team has their low rated players.  How do you expect them to get better if that cant play the game without making mistakes.  Like the Majorty that loses games.  They also learn from their mistakes.  Or at least I hope they do...  Maybey we should deuct points from all majority players that lost the game for each move that took them to the majority loss and reward the lesser votes and give them points for not losing the game. Nor following the majority vote for the loss to the team.  Now that would be fairer...

Point taken, but the points will still stand, and nothing will be deducted if a game is lost. They played together and they lost together.

What they will feel is falling down the ladder in RANKING, but not rating. Two different things.

I play a lot of vote chess, but I'm not a fan of this idea.  Chess.com already has enough "ratings" values that are not ratings at all...tactics trainer and mentor ratings.

Showing these bogus ratings makes people think they have values that can be directly compared to Glicko ratings.

A better solution:

- Remove tactics trainer and mentor ratings and replace with a loosely estimated class/range (which is what those values actually are)

- Change vote chess entirely.  Do not allow voters to move the pieces on the main board, ever.  Instead, voters may only vote for candidate moves identified on analysis boards posted in the comments.  This forces voters to at least scroll down through the comments, and it also forces someone on the team to post a candiate move in an analysis board.  People that post an analysis board with no actual analysis are not as likely to get votes as those that support their move with analysis.

This change, rather than punishing people for bad behavior, actually promotes good vote chess behavior.  If you at that point wanted to add a value shown for each player that identifies how often they vote with the team, how often they post candidate moves (and how much analysis goes with it, etc.) then you could do it...say an activity/reliability classification.  You can even rate a VC player by how often their candidate move is selected by the team (a leadership classification), which would be impossible today.

P.S. Imagine a VC world where a drive-by voter that tries to just pick up the queen and blunder it away gets a popup that says "You cannot make moves here.  Read the analysis/commentary below and select a candidate move after working with your team, or create your own candidate move."

So then, how many games can they play to get the time and experience before they get points deducted?  A year, maybe a year and 1/2?

if we should have points for how good a team player somebody is then we should have points for how sane a certain person is as well... and points for how nice someone is...What is being proposed here isn't exactly an exact science guys

and then maybe we should hand in our resumes so that admins can have a better understanding of who they're accepting into the group.

If you're an admin or SA, remember, if you're doing a good job and are good at communicating and have some sense for politics then the members will follow, if not then forget it, the point system won't solve a thing... you're dealing with people not robots
