I’m not joking. Let me tell you what just happened.

I seem to have a pretty good instinct for spotting cheaters, believe it or not. Recently, I ran into an angry user pointing out a suspected sandbagger. Allegedly.

So, I did a bit of research and came to the conclusion that the playstyle was very human-like. That said, I estimated the strength to be around 2300. After some further digging, the “bot” allegedly claimed to be a WIM rated 2200+. Naturally, I asked for a FIDE profile to verify that… and in response, it started sending me AI-generated kitten pictures.

Hilarious, and also kind of disturbing.

Because if I can't reliably tell whether I'm playing a bot anymore, then we, or at least I, might be in real trouble.
