Ive been playing here for a long time and there have always been problems with people cussing you out after a game, laughing when you make a mistake or letting their time run out because they are pissed.

But lately it seems it's gotten out of hand on here. I can't remember the last time somebody said something nice to me on here (during or after a game I play). The only thing I get are people calling me names or laughing when they win.

I'm a person who likes to play games, I like to try different things, sometimes I'm good, others I suck, but I'm here to have fun. I also enjoy talking to people, saying gg or thx, asking about a position or just some personal (light) chatter.

Recently I just get annoyed when I play here, it's starting to take the fun out of it for me and I don't understand why these people do it.

Personally, I think the rules should be a bit stricter. If you can't behave or have some common decency, I don't think you should be allowed to play here anymore. Maybe if the rules got a bit sharper, people would behave a bit more.

I hope this rings a bell for some people, I'm sure there are more like me that come here for fun and hate the crap that goes on more and more regularly.

I'm eager to hear your replies.

I find the best way to get around this is every time you find a half decent minded person, offer them a friend request. That way every time you go online you will have lots of nice people to invite to games.
Block the rude people. Block the chat if needs be. People will always be like that, especially when they are losing and don't have to look you in the eye behind their computers.

Add me if you want a friendly game...  :)

one time I was playing a jerman from jermany and he was kussing and insulting and I was a tad lucky - as in he was not a good chess player - in that I pushed all my pawn foward against his castled king - well he just insulted and said all kinds of porno insults - I did not even text him once - - he called me stupid for pushing my pawns - later againts his castle - between his king and my king was his queen - my pawn two of my bishops my queen - with my pawn I took his pawn - now it was his king queen in a line with my two bishops and queen and king - he thought I made a mistake and took the bishop bait - then I launched simultaneous concealed attack with my bishop - - took the bishop out of the line and checked him king while simultaneously pinning his queen with my queen - - I took his queen - - then he let the clock run out - his was like Ortona all over again - then - - I blocked him - from now on I just turn off chat finish the game and then block repulsive players - but I am glad I won that game - I was lucky he was not a good player - if I launched a calvary attack using my castled kings pawns as the calvary against a good player I would have been totally massacred

I agree with what you posted. Unfortunately, this is one of the problems with the internet. It opened the door for all the squirrels food to find a place to unload their warped minds. Most are as sane as you and I. And most of these are the young people who just do it for laughs. Then we have the mental unbalanced, they need medications to keep them in line with life. Then there are the real low lifes, who just like to upset as many members as they can. They can't just play a game of chess. To them ever game is a challenge, they have to prove to themselfs that they are superior to others. And they get more pleasure when you reply to there sick remarks. And if you think I'm wrong, just look up the word "Sociopath". You can also lookup "How to spot a sociopath". They give you 10 red flags that could save you from being swept under  the influence of a charismatic nut job. Or just save yourself all the bother and click on the disable chat button located on the top right hand side of the chat board.

P.S. What is squirrel food, Nuts of course.

@ Hill61  Believe me I don't drag out a lost position when I think it's lost. Now if my opponet tells me I have to resign because he thinks I have lost then that's different.

Quite a few times I have been down in material but I managed to checkmate them anyway.

I've had this happen to me a bunch of times, too. Someone will try and tell me the position is lost and I should resign, when it's VERY obvious that they're simply trying to psych me out.

I never reciprocate this kind of behavior: if my opponent has a losing position, I simply let him resign or play it out, but I don't POINT it out. I think it's poor board etiquette to blantantly suggest that your opponent resign.

Just curious, would you resign if you were playing someone in the 1000 to 1100 range and you had your lone king against his king and queen?  There is a reason not to resign if you look at this diagram

Four moves mate in 2: Qe4, Qe3, Qe2 and Qe1 but lower rated players want to close in on the king and often play Qe6??; voilà, stalemate.  That's what's called a "swindle" in chess, and it's legitimate.  Even playing with a lone king against king and rook the opponent can step into stalemate if your king is in the corner, but it's far less likely.  The one in the diagram is more insidious, particularly if the opponent isn't, to quote the title of Dan Heisman's book, "looking for trouble."

It's less likely they stalemate you with K+R, but is not uncommon among absolute beginners one can claim a draw based on the 50 moves rule.

Why does everyone get so serious. It's a game! A hobby! A pastime. Chill!

Playing out K + Q vs K is for dimwits. Hope for a stalemate ? Possible. Face it, you were outplayed and lost. Move on to the next game. "Praying" for a miracle and you lose respect imo, never to play that person again.

I'd probably resign in this position if I wasn't playing a total beginner.

Even against a 1000 or 1100 ... or how about against a 2750?  Take a look at this post by GM Gserper.  Maybe you should look before you ... speak.

Difference of opinion. A player is losing the game with only a King vs K + Q and hopes for a ??? move to save a draw shows disrespect. This is not close to the definition of a chess swindle. It is a absolute blunder. Imo, the player shows no respect for the winning side by saying you are so bad a player you might stalemate the game (in the example). What does that say about the skills of the losing side, being completely lost?

Of course bullet games or the last seconds of a blitz game where the player has just promoted are an exception.

Avatar of Pulpofeira

I resigned yesterday when reaching this position after 54 moves in an OTB game, black (me) to move. I agree is a way to show respect to your opponent and yourself, but I don't mind what others could do.

Avatar of glamdring27

If I were a 1000 player myself then I would likely play on against another 1000 player in any position because there's always a chance of a draw.  Blunders are made so often at that level that stalemate is a high probability.  If I was myself playing a 1000 level player and got into that position I would quit chess for good, except for the possibility my opponent might be using an engine!
