Much American football *is* soccer, you know - almost all of Latin American football, for example. Perhaps you mean Football (U.S.A.) ?

yes! finally someone who understands that most americans don't live in the U.S.A.  By the way, Football (U.S.A.) is hardly played in any country in America besides U.S.A. and Canada. Football (soccer) is certainly by far more popular in the rest of the countries.

I like football too (= soccer)

Do you refer to yourself as "American?" I mean, technically you're right, but I thought that when people say "I'm American" and the French say "You stupid American," they're talking about people from the USA.

Oh, and about the stereotypical French comment, I'm so sorry.  I just couldn't restrain myself.

Fencing! I love to fence!

I would have expected more people on chess.com to say fencing is the best sport, as it is often referred to as physical chess.

Avatar of ivandh

How so Muriel? I've never fenced before, so I'm wondering- I've always considered hockey to be a physical (VERY physical) form of chess, as players must decide the best place to be positioned and constantly adjust to the opponent's play. (And being checked, in hockey as in chess, can be somewhat painful.)

Avatar of gdal_muriel

Well, fencing is very tactical; there's a lot of plan formulating and thinking involved, getting around your opponent's blade, counter attacking, defending against attacks, pressuring your opponent, etc. It's a sport of attacking and defending, like chess.

Chess is not a sport.

My favorite sport to participate in his boxing and running (cross country I suppose). My favorite spectator sports are basketball (LA Lakers fan) and baseball.
