GM Phoenix is OmarGalanti
Who is the mysterious GM Phoenix?
Ok, ok! I'll clear this up now. Enough already. Alright, here goes........... sigh....... well, here it is: I'm phoenix (it's me when I'm not drinking). There, are y'all happy now? I just had to fess up, it was making me feel so guilty watching y'all get all crazy over it. I couldn't take the torture anymore.
So y'all can relax now & let it go.................deep breaths....................just let it go

Imma let Macer handle this.
I just heard some guy claim Carlsen confirmed this was him after the WCC. I think it's bull. Anyone heard of such?
Not everyone wants their real ID known on the site for various reasons :)
I say they're just chicken!

One reason is it would save them a lot of headaches if their account was falsely closed for cheating.
I think the main reason would just be to hide weakness...
That is an interesting idea! I watched a Live Sessions video by Danny Rensch where he played two games against Phoenix- he lost both, and at the second one Phoenix used less than two minutes for the whole 10 minute game.
Anyone who can beat Danny that quickly and that thoroughly has to be pretty incredible.
You know, going back to this link:
Where Magnus trys to give a time advantadge as well... More evidence that it may indeed be Magnus.
I wonder why nobody has mentioned that at least one person on chess.com certainly knows real identity of GM Phoenix as far as an indentity of every titled player, it's the one who has confirmed this account belonging to a GM, if I understand accounts titles system correctly though.
Questions are:
1) What is the benefit for staff of keeping this in secret? I assume that it is EITHER granting the request of this GM to keep this as a mystery due to either a Phoenix's condition of not playing here (thus cutting a sufficient piece of entertainment from chess.com live arena, live sessions etc.) unless his real name isn't known or simple respect to super GMs and thus maintaining a principle of fulfilling their conditions here OR just maintaining this mystery's fun by keeping discussions going and assumptions flowing.
2) Why must GM Phoenix be worry so much about his games being seen and analyzed? It seems to me that there's a little one can figure out about a super GM's chess by analyzing his blitz (needless to say about bullet) games. Tournaments are all about long time control and full-strength playing with top concentration, which may not be the case for simple online live chess.
3) Anyway, there's a possibility of potential leak: the info about real identity may somehow be transferred from one or several staff members to a more wide range of people.
It's also interesting whether some staff members are kidding about not knowing Phoenix real name (and maybe even inability to check it out, which is even less possible) or it's a one-or-few--staff-persons privilege to know this.
A phoenix rises from its ashes... coud it be a former champion?
